This is one thing I've been wanting to post about for a while now, but keeps slipping my mind. Food for thought, if you will.
Most people name their computers, either after themselves, or giving them an individual name of their own. For instance, whenever I get a new motherboard, I give my computer a different name. On my Socket 478 system, my computer was called Noctis; on this Socket A system, my computer is called Pheonix. While the former was simply a cool name, the latter I put some serious thought onto. The Pheonix is a mythological bird of flame, which immolates and destroys itself in a vast explosion after it's time in this world is at an end. Due to this system being an Athlon, I thought it oddly appropriate.
However, it got me thinking. Some people take the concept a little further, even assign personalities, traints and other identifying characteristics to their computers. For instance, some consider their computers female, others male; the machine can be cranky, seductive, old, sexy, prone to fits of rage... After watching every episode of Animatrix on DVD, it got me thinking. How many of you here, unintentionally or by design, give your computers a personality? I suppose the question can extend to cars, homes, other inanimate possessions. How many of you treat your more commonly used possessions like pets? Who becomes jelious after someone else uses it?
Interesting thoughts Wolfie, I dont classify inanimate objects with a gender though.. But I think I will rename my machine B1-66-ER after watching the DVD though..
Giving objects a gender isn't new. Ships, for instance, are always referred to as 'she'; often fondly by their captains. It is a standard joke for the captain's wife to say she is his 'second wife'.
my comp is called 'pandora's box' pretty much i had just finished reading a anne rice book called 'pandora' and she is a funky chick, so well, my comp is a box, so i added box on the end.... there you go!
my comp is a moody bitch.... a girl, i guess its the car thing, anything mechanical is most commonly a she so yeah.... i know she dosnt love me, but loves meph more. if im nice she works, if i yell and scream nothing comes about....
main desktop - Buddha - sits down for hours to meditate on the simplest of tasks despite screaming, prayer, sacrifice etc. laptop - Boris - looks like a russian tank...works like a heap of sh*t
this is kind of ironic considering that they were never named on particular traits - they instead adopted them after they were named, i'm sure of it.
Quote from Milenko: My computers name is "Devil_May_Cry".
If i change it, it will be Dante.
I LOVE THE GAME.
:) Go the Devil child! :P Bought the game 2nd hand for PS2 don't know what I was thinkign should've bought it first hand. Oh well may as well wait for the 2nd one to drop in price quite a bit.
Main Machine - Parenthesis Server - Paritian Friend's machine - Peragainis Parent's machine - Poriguon.
My PC doesn't have a name, but I'm gonna go with Lilu on this one - all machines are female.
My car, though it doesn't have a name, it is DEFINITELY female. In fact of course all cars are. Cars are something you:
1. spend plenty of money on 2. look great when they're newly washed and shiny, but look shit when they're not 3. can be temperamental and piss you off for no good reason 4. are unpredictable at best
That about sums it up for me :D (hope my wife doesn't read this) lol
