if it saves your life than that's cool. the person mentioned first doesn't seem to have cared that rescuers were on their way though :?

it was, but you think he would have waited for Anaesthetic and professional amputation first? ouch!

Yeh it's kind of odd how today i heard, on the news, that a man amputated his own arm when it was stuck under a tractor, and my first, snap, reaction was "It's been done". Not "oh my gosh" not "oh that's horrible". I even wondered whether the original fella's amputation was running through the farmers mind before he cut his own limb off.

Shoot me or whatever, i have no precedant for this comment- but i think that maybe it wouldn't hurt all that much. I'm not a doctor, but maybe the adrenalin rush and the over powering force of the pain just blocks out anything they feel when they cut their arms off? im trying to find the word i wanna use - but it wont come to mind!
doesn't sound too stupid - cutting your own arm off would well, hurt just a tad bit, and would make the average person faint, maybe under those circumstances these guys dont feel pain, or fear?

I'm going to side with Cow here... if you're arm has just been mangled by rolling heavy machinery that happens to be carrying amazing amounts of heavy material, cutting your arm off probably isn't going to have the same effect as you waking up, walking into the kitchen and cutting off your arm on a Sunday morning.
Even if it hurt beyond our comprehension, if in your mind doing something like that is going to save your life, pain probably isn't on the priority list.

I agree with cow and Rec
But very brave of them to do such a thing, certainly would take a lot of guts to do something like that - even if your under so much pain.

the article said he cut his arm off with a f*cking stanley knife

the dude in america waited 5 DAYS before he loped his arm off....
i wasnt there with the miner so i cant possibly know - but it seems he was a little hasty. i guess i agree with Cow

either way it shows what people will do to save themselves. plus the guy who had been there for a while wouldnt have felt anything because it had been crushed for so long...no blood, nerves dead and you're sweet :P
even if u live though, one arms has gotta suck balls...u better hope you are already married and it wasnt the arm you write with..tearing off sheets of paper when taking a shit will now requires effort, as will claing up after..."accidents" ;)
im sure theres a billion other reasons having one arm would suck as well...

screw that. i like having my WHOLE body in good order. losing a finger would be bearable, but a limb, testicle (or other extremity) is a little beyond my threshold i think :?
