Forum Signature Restrictions

Post 1

Due to the increasing amount of unjustifiably large signatures, we've decided it's time to enforce restrictions.

- You may have one (single) signature graphic.
- This graphic must be no bigger than 400px in width and 90px in height.
- We ask that you respect narrowband users and keep your signatures saved in low file-size formats.

We ask you all to start converting your current signatures to fit these standards, after the 15th of July we will start warning and temporarily banning users breaking these guidlines.

Sounds good :D

*cough* So when you going to make me a sig oh wise graphic friend :P j/k

Post 3

just do what I do Jono, stick to text :P

Post 4

I was hoping this was going to be implemented one day, was starting to see monster sized sigs over and over and over in single threads.

Oh well it's not OCAU's text only sig rule but it's getting better.

Post 5

Done.
While we're at it, why wont my avatar display?

Post 6

Glad my sig just scrapes in under those size restrictions without modification

Post 7

ok is this going to be scripted somehow or will you be checking with a ruler? :P

cos mine is way below height, slightly over length, and has two images :(

and yet is tiny in filesize, and not really imposing :(

edit: yah mein fuhrer :(

Post 8

If you read the first post of this thread, the action that needs to be taken is pretty straight forward, you big girl Harby.

Convert your signature into a single image, and make sure it's no larger than the specified dimensions, width or height. Sorry, no exceptions.

Post 37

Where do we get web space ?

Post 38

Usually with your own ISP is more than enough.

Post 39

exo check your PM's

Post 40

Um... Exodus, I can fix your sig if you want. I'll be able to make it fit, if not - I'll make something better. That applies for most people here, I can probably make you's a signature! E-mail me @ oz_phorce@hotmail.com. And my e-mail, I mean E-MAIL. I don't use MSN Messenger cos it's ghetto.
Um, about the restrictions, what if it's say, 200x100 :) Or just NO acceptions at all.
For people who don't know how to take an image from a site. Well, if you see something you like, RIGHT-click it, and go to properties and go to the "address/URL" and copy that! You might want to make sure you can link directly though - also, make sure to ask if you can use it. Most sites will let you, but there are some stingy ones. But they have their rights.

Post 41

Hah! I'm back (all of 10 minutes later!). Okay, well I fixed my signature, nothing fancy this time. It meets the requirement. If anyone wants to know my level of skill, check out my Avatar! I made it :) Which means, AMD can't really do much about my doing stuff with it! Cos I made it! Heh-heh :) Blar blar blar... I need food...

Yessum... Date has passed, my screen is still getting filled with useless sigs clogging my screen and making me read through threads more slowly, also my precious bandwidth is being wasted on such sigs when I could be downloading.....

Post 43

Yes, I've noticed a few larger signatures - not by much... but I remind them to resize it a little bit... mostly there just 500x100 or something but requirements are requirements... (learnt THAT in school).

So maybe not everyone has read the post? Can you make it more sticky ;)

You could put it on the "News" page... :|

By that, do you mean we HAVE to save it in a low format - but honestly people... JPEG files are seriously, 4-8x smaller then a Bitmap, and it's not like you lose much quality... just a little bit of colour.. not even noticeable in my opinion, and im a graphics artist...

Post 45

lol why are u so conserned with thins mr police man?

Post 46

ummm, you speak of the regulations on sigs? what about crazy C's? last i check he had 2 (two) images on his sig, and also his main sig has over shot the size?
He being a admin should set an example?

Post 47

He only has one now, but it's still larger then the requirements... sigh... like most things though, it's just not going to be reinforced. Noone cares enough, or knows enough to do it.

Post 48

Rec your still a doodle :P

You said 1 image what happens small and theres 2 of them ?
i mean im on 28.1 kb connection LOL... and loads fast for me so it fine

*kicks telstra up the ass gimmie a line stop splitting me off someone elses line*

Post 49

make it into one image :P

Post 50

Urg i cant do that im to special lol.........

Post 51

what u think :p

Post 52

yeah it does unseen, but you dont need a picture cause u are already 1337 8)

Shameless edit :p

Post 53

thanks m8

Post 54

Unseen, you now have two images in your signature. Remove one, preferably that stupid little man. :)

Post 55

*prods rec* same could be applied to Crazy C?

Post 56

Or you could just put the 'little man' in the signature. I do like that black thing too btw... should make something like that for my Hotmail signature :)

Post 57

LOL why limit ppl to 1 photo i mean i understand if they are like 100 kb each but small 1's like 30 and 30 thats okay cos im on 28.1 sometimes 33 speeds and they load fast for me :D :D

Post 58

works much better if you put the [img..] bits in without a return :D

Post 59

Hahhahaha!
Harb, your a genious. Again :D

Post 60

Guys... ONE image per signature. Ignorant twits. Kurt, you're going to get such a slap, how many times have I mentioned this to you? :)

Post 65

korny is gay

Post 66

is my sig 2 big???? i mean the length wise it is, but it's heaps shorter height wise???

Post 67

I don't think it should matter much (I'm no admin of course, it depends on them). However, they were they restrictions, but in a case like this, it's low bandwidth and everything, if anything, you could cut the sides off, probbaly bring it to 430 atleast... don't worry about it unless someone says anything to you about it :)

JPEG compression is ideal for most web-based purposes, and can be a hell of a lot smaller than 4-8x less than a BMP. It becomes very noticable depending on the level of compression you apply, and is not always relative to the colour, but general picture quality.

For signatures (and a huge chunk of web related needs), you'll find GIF compression is by far a more appropriate format, both for compatibility (colour depth, connection speed and more) as well as functionallity (the ability to create animated images).

Your standards as a "graphics artist" obviously aren't too high if you're using a GIF Animator application to design and compile your work (such as your signature).

If anyone finds third-party images they'd like to use as signatures (or avatars etc) and have gained permission to use them, it would be common courtesy to save the image to your HDD and upload it to GU or your own FTP space so you're using your/our bandwidth instead of theirs.

I think its sarcasm rec :)
