There isnt enough anti-trust shit in the world that would make me switch back to Intel, P4's suck, although I wouldn't mind a couple P3 1.4 GHz server CPU's :)
After its HT lackluster introduction in Northwood, Intel is probably banking on Prescott to show HT's true potential.

AMD's version of MMX, SSE and SSE2 are much more powerful than Intel's. They always have been. It's just that Intel bring it to market before AMD does (because Intel developes these technologies).
The Athlon64 hasn't hit the market yet, but the Opteron has. I like AMD's approch to spped, "MHz isn't everything" (same as Apple). Intel don't know the meaning, they bump the clock up until the dam thing puts out as much heat as a foot heater.

The P4 takes twenty, that's why AMD's new processors are half the MHz clock of the P4 Northwood to equal performance, as apposed to the AthlonXP which is usually 30% below the Northwood clock. Yeah but its unfortunate many don't know this information. Many people buy a processor solely for a higher clock speed (which in a way is a shame), sure a higher clock speed is always going to make the chip that little bit faster, but there are other factors other than just the clock speed. I mean if AMD were somehow able to all of a sudden bring a chip out with an equivilent clock speed to that of the fastest P4 well intel would pretty much be stuffed in the PC market. For us that know a little bit about processors its not hard to tell whats a good chip or not, and personally AMD and Intel are pretty much on par. Their fastest chips benchmark at pretty much similar results, even though AMD has a lower clock. While I havent been reading too much on current technologies from both companies, personally Id say its personal choice to what you want. AMD is generally cheaper, can overclock well but run quite hot, where as Intel chips, run cool, some clock very well, but are usually a bit more pricey.
Im an AMD fan personally, not sure why just am (suppose I like their way of doing things) but I think generally AMD make the better chips. Intel are just after raw clock speed to be able to sell to the majority of the market.

but why is amd doign all this freaky shit to cpus with shit clock sppeds do all this stuff to 3gig processors and ill be happy :P
Knight is it the server one though? Does it have 512KB of cache or only 256KB? If its only 256KB then its not much better than my tualatin celeron 1.2GHz. I want the P3 1.4GHz with 512KB of cache, better yet I want 2 to run dual :D

I have seen how shit they are first hand, also heard of many people having problems with stability and power. Fact is they're just fast not powerful! Just look at every other major CPU company, they havent gone for pure processor speed
I agree with Martok, although I must point out that it was the Willamette core P4 that really made me laugh. The Northwood is quite a bit better, but I would only consider getting one if they: 1. Improved their FP performance 2. Reduced their heat output 3. Lowered their prices considerably 4. Stopped changing their mobos so often
The Prescott looks quite interesting. It looks like they covered my number 1 and 2 gripes, but 3 and 4 will carry over. The other question is if they will continue the Pentium4 name or switch to Pentium5?
