i dont think assault could apply as a reasonable person wouldnt actually take the maiming and killing and what have you seriously. i dont get why it was so graphic..graphic for a television ad anyways. kinda fucked up and i hope riaa is sued by someone none the less. i will buy the cd anyways and if not they didnt deserve my money!

I seriously doubt they will get the warrants to raid peoples houses unless they have major proof, like IP logs or snitches.
They might manage to get warants for those people who are providing them or downloading an obscene amount but not the average person who downloads a few songs a week or month.

Ok, a few things:
1) RIAA, or Recording Industry Association of America, is only in America. It would be a breach of Australia's soverenty for them to search Australian homes, and any bills or fines sent directly to Australian homes would not have to be paid. (What are they gunna do?)
2) The RIAA is NOT a law enforcement agency. They have no legal authority to search hard drives, network packets, or any other medium. They DO have the power to search what files you're sharing (since you're making that information publically available) and they DO have the power to use DMCA to sue users who share "substancial" amounts of copywrited material. The simple answer, don't share much. Rotate what you share. For MP3's, share one letter of the alphabet per week. For movies, do the same.
3) The RIAA appears to be targeting subpoenas at users who allow their computers to be "Supernodes" on the FastTrack P2P System (used, for instance, by KaZaA and Morpheus). Simple answer, tick Don't Function as a Supernode. Not a failsafe solution, but will definately help.
4) http://www.chillingeffects.org/ American, but they have a lot of information for reading.
5) That ad is SO not appropriate for TV or anything else. They, an organization which has no legal authority, are literally threatening people with violence if file sharing continues. What a joke.
