Cable used to be really great for games and downloading, now that Optus put caps in its okay for dling (super speed but shit all allowance) but its still great for games. DSL seems pretty crap for gaming, but still its better than dialup :)
Also you should check what the charges are (if any) for exceeding the cap and whether they count your uploads. Telstra catches many with both of these factors.
A good site to look at would be www.broadbandchoice.com.au
Just remember large caps arent always good as if they count upload then 20GB isnt that great. Oh, if you get AOL, I will find out where you live and hunt you down
everybody here reckons that internode rocks.. but doesn't it really suck with all the throttling? Whats wrong with ozforces? at least it doesn't throttle ya...
Quote from 3vil: Optus Cable: $85 a month for 10 days of cable and 20-21 days of half average dial up speed. Depends how you manage it, you could have a couple of hours of cable and 29.8 days of 20kbps connection, or you could have 30 days of cable. I've only had one month of the 3GB cap and i didnt even use all of it

If you're a downloader then obviously cable isn't the right option. But for gamers and net surfers then cable is alright.
sorry, i'm on flatrate sitting at 22gb for the last 30 days and i have barely been throttled.... but then i'm throttled because i've chosen to be.
Premium plans aren't throttled on node - i was on 4.5gb 512/128 premium for approx. 8 months.
Ozforces is great... if you want huge d/load limits. it has pretty good service from what i hear. but after having internode i don't think that i could ever change my ISP.... ever.
I am currently on Telstra... if you think I'm going to support them and suggest to go on them, you're wrong. They suck. For the price ($95/mo on a contract, "17 with no contract) and the cap (3 gig... yep, 3000Mb... yay... ) nothing gets worse then that, cept ISDN and Telstra's dialup.
However, my contract expires in about 27 days. I was happy with them for 3-5 months, then I hated them, then I found GameArena, but the last 6 months I couldn't wait for this day to come (in 27 days, that is). After tossing up a few, never checked Internode actually, I am now going with Tel-Pacific. (http://www.telpacific.com.au). $79 a month gets 512/128kbps, and unlimited downloads!! However, I might not just check into Internode, see what's happening with them.
Do they offer free webspace at all? Cos I don't think Tel-pacific do. So if node doesn't, can someone suggest somewhere where I can get netspace (I dont really mind paying, not heaps though).
