but I think while it was being made, they saw LOTR 3 and thought, we need more men, because some of them just look tacked onto the sides of the armies :P
but all in all the movie was fantastic :)
Achillies isnt as sociopathic as I would have liked, but he is close :P
The fight between Hector and Achillies - Awesome, no piss farting around, every single sword movement was trying to kill the other guy, you can see why they hurt each other so much while filming...
Saw it tonight, absolutely BRILLIANT film. It's one of those that you wish won't end, because it's just so good. Brad Pitt filled the role of Achilles very well, loved that signature move he dished out, i'd go see the movie again just to see that. Eric bana was good, he didn't have that gay accent he had in Black Hawk, Orlandoo Bloom did well as Paris as well, the little biatch who redeems himself at the end. The cousin to Paris and hector, she was fine.
I found Agamemmnon to be a bit overplayed, the actor who played has played some meanie parts in the past, and played it well, i just though Agamemnon was made out to be a bit too mean.
Odysseus who was played by the guy who acted as Boromir (i think) didn't get enough of the limelight, but hey, he had a nice narrative towards the end.
Was an excellent movie, i'd recommend anyone to see it, u'd think it was a big budget film that wouldn't do well, but i loved it, and am ready to see it again!
go the shirtless brad. definitely thought wolfgang should have shot more scenes armorless. eg. burning of cousin- whats with the shirt on??? very unnecessary i say.
Briliant movie :) Its a rewrite of greek history. With their Heros, wars, love and Gods (well they arent really in it(gods), but they are refered to in a pretty acurate manner). The fight between Hector (hercules) and Achillies was extremely good. Nice moves.
Man i'm itching to go see it again, the story was enjoyable because i studied all that Trojan/Greek/Mycenae stuff in year 12. I think i'll have a read of the Illiad and Odyssey again before i see it.

Its worth watching Helen of Troy if you want to find out some of the actual reasons (ie. backstory) behind it. Troy tells Achilles story, Helen of troy tells helens story.
it was a terrible movie. absolutely gut wrenchingly bad. all the times the scenes cut to one of the wives wringing their hands in anguish, overlayed by a crescendo for each one...it happens far too often. all the times the actors fall back on their native accents, Agamemnon and his crazy irish ranting, Hector and his australian drawl. all the times the men go off on a tirade about gods and women without any definitive conclusion.
however, i'll give it marks for not using the roman names and pretty much keeping to what i remember as the original story. the fight scenes were also awesome...but the movie was attempting to do more than just showing big men flex their muscles, and i think it failed. if you took the music score out [yes, i realise this is illogical] the melodrama would be more underplayed and the mood of it may actually be expressed in the acting, which, given the calibre of the actors involved, could have been far far better.

Thats greek mythology/history for you. If you have ever read any actual ancient greek or latin texts thats how it was written. Read the Odyssey by homer and you will see the movie isnt all that bad.
But you do have a piont regarding the actual actors forgetting that they actual have some acting skills, with the exception of Achillies 2nd (cant remeber his name), & Odysseus. They where good.
Another point, look at Achillies and his cousin, when they was play fighting when they 1st intorduced him. Any one notice the gay feel to that scene, the way they moved around each other, how they acted towards each other.
Thats a very common thread in Ancient Greek and Latin writting, nicely brought into the movie and not really noticed by many.

went and saw it last night, i cried, poor hector. he was one of the only ones that were honourable and he died cause of silly reasons, twas a good move when he killed achilles heel's gay cousin, argh the throat.
so now we know why its called an achilles tendon hay :)
was a good movie. but hated the ending and the way they portraid the story. they made Acillies out to be some softy hero, when he was just a **** to everyone. and the fact he got shot about 10 times and still managed to kiss his woman about 30 times i mean come ON. but the fight scenes were top class. its at the bottom of all the Ancient/Medievil movies tho for me.
