Ok for DGA 32 we have decided to make an attempt at running scheduled game times, in the form of a Games Timetable. It is intended to provide gamers with some direction and coordination at the lan, getting a decent range of games with as many players as possible. Hopefully everyone can see where I'm trying to go with this and get behind it.
So without further ado, here is the current timetable for DGA 32
Free play is a break in the timetable where no dedicated timetable servers will be run. This is to let people have a break, and play some random games, eat etc. The games mentioned are just a suggestion.
CS is not included because there will already be a dedicated CS server running, and of all games CS requires the least amount of assistance in getting people to play.
Deathball is not specifically included because you can only really play with 12 people before telefragging occurs.
The list of games is not set in stone, but neither are they very flexible, games may be still be changed as the lan grows nearer based upon input from the public and new game releases.
You are not required to play, this is intended as a guide to help people get more games into their lan experience. If you do not wish to participate, or do not think the system will work, that is your perogative. But I'd appreciate it if you keep your comments to yourself.
and above all, remember that the entire purpose is to have fun, so lets try that.
Lets try one thing at a time buddy. If everything works out great for this coming lan with the Timetable, multiple games per slot could be looked into.
I'd just like to propose a change from the 3 hours of T:V to an hour of T:V and 2 hours of CoD/CoD:UO.
Considering how popular CoD has been in past competitions and public play (probably the second most played game at DGA)... it might prove a popular addition. (Especially with the expansion pack UO... intense with 32 players)
lets just run with what is planned for now. its not the last dga ever. and there are plenty of games left off that list that can be rotated at the next.
i for one want to see more CS, CoD and DoW but we cant have everything...
you cant have 10 minutes of every game that everyone wants :P
Quote from "seqo": (probably the second most played game at DGA)
There we go, CoD has been played enough already. I'd rather see some nice variety than going for big hitters into the list. This is to force people to play games that aren't usually played.
Quote from Jay: This is to force people to play games that aren't usually played. This isnt forcing people to do anything from what I got from Harbs first post. I thought it was a suggestion. And advises people what will be running and when.
Not trying to force people to play games, but if everyone knows that theres a specific game on at a specific time, then they are more inclined to play it, even more so if there is already x number of people in there having fun :)
If people want to host CoD from their PC they are more than welcome to, we are not exactly saying 'You have to play this game'. Simply trying to get some variety going with mass amounts of people.
When CoD first came out no one really liked it, but after they started playing it some more people were loving it. We ask you give these games a go, I haven't played half the games on the list and I am only too happy to. Try and have some fun and keep an open mind. If the timetable doesn't work, then we can scrap the idea and people can go back to playing the same old games.
DGA 31 Deathball was introduce and look how much people enjoyed that. So much, gamers now want to make a comp out of it and I know some people in particular who have started a online server. Let us introduce some more new games for your enjoyment.
If you don't like the games, I am sure CS, CoD and DC will be there to full back on. Just give it ago and see how you like it. Thats all we are asking :)
Quote from Unseen: Are there going to be enough dedicated servers to support the entire lan.
Unlikely that this will happen, but is there enough deds to support half to 75% playing the game at the alloted time?
Yes. Games like Starwars: BF have single server capacities of 64 players. Games like CS 32 players, a 2nd server will start if necessary. Other games like Tribes V also have a decent player capacity. But we will be lucky to get 75% of the LAN in, unless its extremely successful. In which case, im sure a server will be up. But we arent infallable and its only a trial run.
....its just a recommended time for sleeping. So you can do whatever you want during that time.
Unless i slip some date rape drugs into your cola, at which point, i will be having my way with you...repeatedly. In fact, its best you dont sleep. Just play games.

well, u didnt look very hard then, i had a cs 1.6 up for all of the lan, except when the cod comp was on. there wasnt many people playing cs at last lan anyway.
therefore the staff ARE supporting cs, but there was minimum interest
I was there during the COD comp or the end of it. And I was asked where mine was, look ed at the guy who was playing with 15 other people in a server (yes people not bots) and it was a player run server, nothing wrong with that at all.
I figure if you want something better to do it yourself then wait for others.
Quote from neotheo: fair enough From what I hear from those that we actually playing it, was you were running a cracked version server. So all those (majority) of the lan couldnt see it.
Hence the players were having to run them .. If you are going to do something do it right or ask somebody that knows.
So unseen you are going to be at DGA 32 with bells on and having a dedicated server under your arm? Hosting games such as cs 1.6, cs:s? DGA don’t need to worry about setting them up cause you will have them completely covered?
great. just do it and stop turning every dga thread into a 'my cs servers are roxxor yours are suxxor' pissing contest thread. it's getting rather tiresome.
DGA is informed that we don’t need to provide the CS servers for DGA 32 cause you will be taking care of them instead.
Good to see you trying to help out in the best way you can.
I myself look forward to playing on the 1.6 server and I’m sure many other cs players look forward to taking advantage of your server’s aswell. Thanks.

For the last 2 years I have attended 3 dgas. All of them nothing BUT CS, or whatever CS flavour that just came out. I spent most of those lans sitting around chatting or at home sleeping. Yes there was some savage, but that lasted 30mins with 5 people and perhaps some pirates with 4 people before everyone went back to CS.
GO ME! I just want to say that cs is the MOST popular game (or was) at the DGA, if you want something different there is a small pocket of you outkasts on the left who will play starcraft and a few other games. Even though most of them are great games... they are nothing compared to CS, if you think its boring, well then... i have to agree with you. but its still fun and there will always be a dedicated server up.
you can always play a different game, 6 hours of straight cs isnt good for you and im sure they will take a break and play warcraft 3...
Just stop dissing it, its not its fault its great!
owa does have a good point there. If you don't like a game.... don't play it. I dout most people would really care that you hate it so much but i am one of those people who still love CS. :P To all who don't like CS!!!!!!!!!!!
So because we've all been playing nothing but CS (apparently) we should all be happy about the lans? and everything should be fine...and more and more people should be showing up?...no.
that aint the case. so the admins are trying something different. cs is almost 8 years old i dont care how pretty the new versions look. they are trying something new. get over it.
no-one said you cant have your own server and play to death. but i will be wanting to try some new things at the lan to liven things up. this is called "change".

and evil, your not helping, nor are you funny.
bring on the flames on my cs bashing. Agreed .. change is good. The timetable like the chupa chupa challenge, I bet will be a big success.
But here u have owa and people like him new too dga, and they want to play cs, post here and get torn to threads. Good impression on them, tells there friends and so on and so on. And Bam dga doesnt have a good reputation.
But if thats the way it goes on then so be it. DGA is the ONLY lan currently run in Darwin that is actually big enough for this to happen. (no disrespect FL)
The way I see it, DGA is getting better. They have all these new ideas which stems from the change of people in DGA. But what they need to remember is pm'ing people is bad (hi neotheo :p ) and they need to work out who is running DGA.
I have a keen interest in the organisation because well as said its really the only Major LAN event worth attending in Darwin, and Darwin is a shit hole.

I fail to see the big deal in this.
Unseen you will have your cs server up 24/7 correct? We will more than likely have one sitting there on the standby as well.
Anyone who wants to play CS than find Unseen's server (whats the name of it btw?), who ever doesn't want to than just stop worrying because it wont effect you. Does anyone have a problem with that?
i like playing cs. but i like playing other games as well. and i understand why people love it or hate it. and the majority of the people that attend the lans do NOT post here. that part i agree. but mate. the last CS comp that YOU ran when i was sitting right next to you only had 3 or 4 teams. only 2 of which actually were clans or teams. i'm not knocking cs in general. but the interest up here is practicly zero. if there were people lining up to play and ask for cs next lan, great. ill shut up and play :)
but guess we can never really know what will happend till we try it. all i know is that a sponsered big lans (no offence DGA) like those down south will never happen here. Melbourne, sydney, adelaide have millions of people. darwin has a hundred thousand, if that. there is little or no market here. thats why most business' wont really put too much into anything up here.
so we should stop looking at ideas downsouth because those types of lan cannot happen. which is why i think this might work :)
who knows. maybe there is an untouched amount of people in darwin willing to give up their cash for lan :) time will only tell. that and a bit of advertising.
Im not running a CS comp. I actually think the time table is good.
And I hope you are right I hope there is business's around willing to hand out money, guess not though as most sponsorship comes from down southerner ways :)
But anyway... The timetable is a great idea guys. I've only been to one DGA this year due to being in year 12 and all (phoenix and neotheo - go away ;)) and the sight of all those games has got me excited. This might be the first time I play something other than CS at a DGA .
Quote from owa_13: thanks EoS, At the Dga, whoever runs the bbq should prolly sell ice and drinks? might come through? we do sell drinks there mate just ask next time and someone will fetch you one
i know it's been suggested, but i still reckon having 2 games going at the same time would be good, for people who either tire from the game because they suck/they're too good, or can't play the game for whatever reason
Make sure there are no delays - know what DGA and comps are like :D people might plan their eating habits other arrangements around the timetable if they only want to play certain games.
