So people to time send of your helpdesk tickets in, and hope it doesn't take to long for Telstra to get the back haul to go in the right direction.

while we're on the topic of dodgy net connections, can someone on node do a tracert to a GA IP, eg 139.134.253.29

My ping is still not fixed.

I sent a iiNet a technical support email giving them my tracert to their server and asked only for them to take the issue up with Telstra, this is the response i gave them. The URL i gave them was supposed to be for this thread but for some reason 3D got added into the URL.

Hello Steve,

Thanks for your email.

The URL you've included does not appear to be related at all. On top of this, pings are of the lowest priority and while they may not be low sometimes, there may not actually be an issue. To this end we need you to test the speed of the connection downloading this 'http://ftp.iinet.net.au/adsl.test' while nothing else is using the connection.

If you can provide the results for the above we will see what needs to be done.

Kind Regards
Michael Collard

Since I am currently in a shitty mood already, I sent them an abusive email back. iiNet have no care in the world for Darwin residents. I don't recomend them to anyone in Darwin!! This is the second time I have had a similar email back regarding this problem.

Post 17

heya Longtom... im with iinet and my pings are fine.

But i get a lower ping to internode than i do to iinet ><
neways... agree with Longtom...
my experience:
Rang up iinet concerning why i couldnt connect to the internet..
THe guy said whats ure username.. Phoenix. and where do you live? To which I replied: I live in Darwin.. long silence... Are you sure you live in Darwin?? Ummm yeah.. and you sure you are with iinet?? Umm yeah, i've been with you for like 2 months now... Oh ok.. its just we dont have ADSL in darwin yet... well obviously you do coz IM WITH IINET!! He replies... okay just have to check something.. 2 mins later he comes back and says.. oh it looks like we do have ADSL in Darwin.. and i proceded to find out why i couildnt connect only to find ou t it was on the old credit card which had expired..

anyways.... Their PHONE SUPPORT didnt even know there was ADSL in Darwin...

But other than that ive had no problems.

Post 18

The only problem I have withh iiNet is the support. But that is a big problem. Support is one of the most important services for an ISP especially in Darwin. here is my ping to iiNet:
C:\Documents and Settings\Steve>ping www.iinet.net.au

Still bad!!

Everyone on iinet in Darwin Defect to Internode! hehe

Thats a function of distance, our adsl goes to SA before going anywhere else.

Sent a copy paste of that to some friend working helpdesk at a isp... most amused they were :0

So is everyone still getting this latency problem, or is it only some?
This is really shitting me. The problem has been ruining my Halo 2 experience :)

Anyone interested in making a collective appeal to our local "member" and to the telecommunications authority please post below and we might be able to organise a collective complaint with more strength than all our individual ones.
I know fighting telstra is like pushing shit up hill, but even shit crumbles eventually.

What exchange are you on??

Last night we were playing and I am in palmerston and had no issues, yet those in Cas we spiking and lagging all over the place.

Post 24

i am on cas exchange, and last night my latency appeared fine (the brief 10 second command line check i did, might be time to install smokeping again)

Post 25

https://ios.homelinux.com/smokeping/cgi-bin/smokeping.cgi?target=Internode.NodeADL

Post 26

I'm on the Cas exchange, and although games seem to play better at night, my pings are remaining the same. 92ms to adelaide exchange.

Yep OverDrive. That looks right to me.

I mean, the information looks right, that it's happening is wrong. Did I get that right? It would be wrong of me to confuse anybody. Alright, alright. That's all. I have nothing left.

Post 27

mmm im on cas exchange, been fixed since last friday or so :s

Post 28

I'm on cas exchange.......still crap. After my complaint to iiNet though I don't think I will ever have decent ping again.

Post 29

That's pathetic Longtom. Ring them, site Simon Hackett's latest rantings about why the NT is getting screwed ping-wise (on Whirlpool.net.au). Tell them to stop acting like it doesn't exist and stop treating you like you don't know what you're doing.

Also, when/if you ring, ask for this Michael Collard bloke who responded to your email. Sounds like a complete dipshit.

Post 30

From Node Fault advisory page:

"*UPDATE* Thurs. 2/12 10:00

This issue is still being investigated by Telstra. We are currently awaiting notification from them."

Post 31

Well Id say the Cas exchange has shat itself .. at a guess.

Or are other sites having issues still?

Post 32

AT 1:20pm today - MY PINGS GOT FIXED!

Weeee!

https://ios.homelinux.com/smokeping/cgi-bin/smokeping.cgi?target=Internode.NodeADL

Post 33

Yep mine fixed also. Woohoo! Just when I was about to be nasty to iiNet. Oh well, I'm sure there will be a next time...and a next....and a next..........

Post 34

Yup fixed for mew fpor node as well.

Post 35

mmm wd Telstra

https://ios.homelinux.com/smokeping/cgi-bin/smokeping.cgi?target=Internode.NodeADL

:s

Post 36

Holy crap I can't believe it.

It took them less than two days. ffs.

Post 37

Can't half tell when I'm downloading can you :)

Post 38

Nooooo, it certainly can't be all those huge spikes :p

Post 39

Does this mean we have to start complaining again

Post 40

yerp, anyone got their old support ticket number? i deleted the email that came yesterday sayin the issue was resolved. Save opening a new job.

Post 41

Yeh Longtom... time to deal with iinet again mate.

Post 42

I've already called node - they will re reopening the issue.

Post 43

I just re-opened my ticket with node stating that we still have a problem in Darwin.

Post 44

I hope this was aggressive enough http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=273329
Maybe someone from their "advanced technical suppport" might read it. By the way, that is where they sent me when I called them by phone. "Advanced Technical Support". Does that mean that Technical Support are just receptionists designed to waste your time?

Post 45

Looks like I may be changing to internode. Even on Whirlpool iiNet does not want to respond to my request.

Post 46

anyone received a reply from node? their support page hasnt updated the latency problem from last week, as of yet.

Post 47

Nope - I replied to my support email as told to over the phone from a tech but havent received anything as yet.

Post 48

Node have at least 7 staff that also are gaming admins, and everyday, I always ask about it while idling in #ignadmins. They can't really give much information out until Telstra reset the backhaul pathway.

Post 49

http://cgi.internode.on.net/advisories/item.html?id=2866

does anyone know if this is the problem with the lacency issues or not???

Post 50

I doubt it Brownie...check the Dates/times....that doesnt occur until first thing 2morro morning

Post 51

i should have said... will this fix the lacency issue.. im not very computer literate, just like knight can't spell :D

Post 52

heh, anyone received anything more? annoying :(

Post 53

Just a email saying telstra fault and looking into it.

Now go to node and do an online speed check and test your connection.

Mine has been all over the place from just above 56k dial up to less than 300 for streaming video.

All this from a 512 connection.

Not happy.

Post 54

iiNet have just swept it under the carpet as usual

Post 55

dont know why u guys complain so much ..

We know it happens like clockwork .. wanna get it fixed. move out of the NT.

Otherwise we live with it .. which we are all doing.

Post 56

Complaining because it shouldn't be like this.

Post 57

if there is no complaints, telstra don't even fix it. simple as that.

Post 58

My tracert now goes straight to Adelaide. I'm not sure it is the same problem.

Post 59

Telstra dont *FIX* it anyways .. it happens every month .. if that is your definition of fix then phew..

Post 60

I'd rather complain and get half my time with a lower ping then not complain and get NONE of my time with a decent ping. And it takes all of 2mins to do...

Post 61

No I ment as in your report it sure.

but then come here and complain to end of the earth .. iinet node commindico they dont do anything ..

tap telstra, go fix it .. they do 2 months later busted again .. This has been happening to us for way 2 years now ..

sure they could have fixed it by now if they *seriously* were going too

Post 62

this post is good to find out if anyone else latency is fixed. You might know from word of mouth that everyone has a problem but as to if theirs has been fixed but yours not is another story all together. it's only natural that people are going to complain because they have a problem but to say don't come here and complain at all is silly. What if it where only internode but not the others (not likely but hey) without someone saying 'iiNet is still down what about the rest of you, stupid ghey iiNet' then internode people could be thinking that everyone has a problem when it is only them.

Post 63

https://ios.homelinux.com/smokeping/cgi-bin/smokeping.cgi?target=Internode.NodeADL

1:15am this morning my ping was fixed! Wee!! Lets hope it lasts for more than 2 days this time...

FiXT :D

Post 65

Post 66

was just playin a game and guess what....

https://ios.homelinux.com/smokeping/cgi-bin/smokeping.cgi?target=Internode.NodeADL

fkn joke.

Post 67

I'll post here what I posted in the whirlpool internode forums.

I am not the best at getting my point across and definitely not good at explaining the technical stuff, even though I understand it myself.
If someone could right a good diplomatic letter about the subject, not to anyone specific, just to "Minister", and post it in this thread, I will research and post a list of Territory and Federal government email address.
Each one of us can then just copy and paste the letter into an email, and send it to all relevant ministers and opposition members.
Here's a list. If we can draft an email to this committee :-

Standing Committee on Communications, Information Technology and the Arts
cita.reps@aph.gov.au

Jackie.Kelly.MP@aph.gov.au The Hon Jackie Kelly MP Chair

Then we can then send the email to them, and mark it cc to these email address

Post 68

is email really the best form of attack?

Post 69

going and seeing them would be better ..

email they can just ignore.

And with telstra becoming privotised Im betting that they wont want to touch it anyways.

Post 70

exactly. i think a visit to tollner is in order.

Post 71

even then would tollner listen ?? I mean he would cause he is a nice bloke but with it becoming privotised ..

Post 72

i think the prioritisation is the key here.. if it gets prioritised, we've lost our chance and wont be able to do anything.. then again maybe we sent the "company" of Telstra a letter once a week once they are privatised. :)

Post 73

once a week ??

we should go once a day .. one the private sector takes over. . thats still a while away from FULL yet.

Post 74

if you pay for the stamps :)

just send the letter with a small bit down the bottom.

Today my pings are
- Acceptable

- Unacceptable
