another dga 35 come and gone - fairly small one with around 45 people showing up. no power / network issues to speak of at all. pizza and BBQ were both very successful, lanners were generally well behaved and much fun was had by all.
congrats to wombat combat for taking out the SWAT 4 competition and winning "20. also congrats (and apologies, perhaps :)) to Longtom for winning the chupa chup challenge and taking home a great massive bucket full of chupa chups. also huzzah to SpiritWalker for taking home the 15" LCD monitor door-prize, courtesy of our new sponsors Omega/Hallmark.
timetable went well this time, with Swat4 and FarCry seeing some impressive amounts of players. also many people discovered Flatout this lan, so that got a fair amount of play.
so. we - as the people that organise these things - are keen to hear some feedback from the people that went. any issues? timetable advertised enough?
also my condolences to blob, whose ice had sadly melted come sunday morning. we are all terribly sorry.
There were 42 persons attending, not including admins.
As for the drivers... wouldn't it just run as a Plug & Play monitor? Shouldn't need the drivers for anything. If you still want them, I suggest contacting Omega/Hallmark tomorrow and seeing if they can point you in the right direction ;)
Like to thank all atendees as well for not creating Unholy Mess. Was actually reasonably easy and swift sweeping and mopping of the floor at the end of the day. Thanks to all the Admins that did a fantstic job and to my Super Sidekick Piggy for his BBQ efforts. Keep an eye out for future exciting door prizes from our new Major Sponsor, Omega/Hallmark, and the re introduced Members only prize draw as well as new changes to the menu and nightly funtime activities in LAN's to come.
the only thing i though could be improved was the ftp's, instead of every one having diffrent passwords and user name make some sorta generic ones like user:gu pass:gu or some thing

Quote from tn1: I agree with Close1, its hard enough to find the servers (time comsuming) then you have to work out the PW :(
Generic Pw's for the win!
This sort of defeats the purpose of having a login I think. There is also a forum http://dga where you can go and there is a thread with ftp login details on it.
To find ftp servers takes about 10 seconds (using a program called angryip) to scan the 192.168.0.x ip range for open ports (21 in this case) I wouldn’t call that time consuming.
Knight, i know how to scan for ports. I was scanning for ports before your father was... bah never mind :p The next LAN I will come to you if I have any problems :)
Any word on comps? I am keep for swat, since I missed out on the last one.
You people that whine about being unable to leech: remember it's a two way street. If you wanna leech, let people check out your files also. I had 1.2 Tb shared out over most of the Lan; Eater and Knight can verify this. However, at times when I have tried to see if anyone else has anything, there is nothing shared.
Quote from tn1: I believe the rules say you can't have annonymous login (which is fair).
anyway back to topic, anything interesting happen at the LAN ? still waiting on pics ;) Pics will be up when we receive them and our webmaster has time to host them. For the people who took pics if you are willing and able to submit them to our webmaster that would be tops. The address for him is webmaster@darwingamers.org
About annonymous login, I’m unaware of the full rules on this, I’m able to chase them up on request though. I KNOW that if you are sharing 18+ materials it must be passworded.

I completely agree. It's annoying when there are only a few people that actually share... yet there are large numbers who will gladly leech away without repaying those they have leeched off.
tn1, unsure whether there will be another Swat 4 comp anytime soon. The last one did go very well :) (Well done again to Wombat Combat.) but having another within the next two lans may be too much. However, it is up to the Head Comp. admin and public demand :)
I would like to know why the ftps have to be passworded (non 18+ stuff). And before I get flamed Im just curious is all, not stating what I think of it.
I think it was something along the lines of that if its passworded, its private, and therefore anyone getting busted is on their own and doing it of their own responsibility if they choose to share illegal material. If it wasnt passworded, then DGA could be held liable as its an open thing on their networks.
I'm not entirely sure and could be completely wrong but that was my understanding.
Many thanks to the ppl who organised and helped out at the DGA35. This was my 3rd LAN and wanted to say thanks to all concerned.
One helpful function that I'd been thinking about and was present this time was the Display (Projector) of the current game being played (inc the next game and time etc) Excellent !!.
Flatout was indeed good fun.. Albeit its a little buggy.
Communication isn't very good sometimes. Its hard to find out what is being played and when etc if you miss the person shouting out when the game changes (happens a lot I imagine when everyone is usign headphones...) Hard to find where to grab the game etc too. It take a few DGA's to get the hang of things...
Trying to find and grab grab a game is time consuming. Not anyones fault so to speak but this is hampering many ppl playing games I think. I might be a bit naive but when I first came along I expected most ppl to be playing the same game, however its normal for less than 10 ppl to be on the Main game at the time (thats low considering there's up to 50+ ppl there).
In regards to the FTP... I think having a generic login would also help as well as its very time consuming trying to find and guess FTP Servers / logins. Maybe having an advertsied and central list of FTP servers as well ? Everyone would know where to look and how to login ! I held up my FTP server for most of the last LAN too BTW and used the gu/gu login (although this wasn't advertised anywhere except on my PC) and had to allow anonymous access via Group Policy to do that as well.
CODUO - My game of choice. The server for DGA35 was great for about 2 or 3 levels then it started to lag and lag badly it did. It kept freezing for 10-20sec (connection timeout) then would come back for a while then freeze again... To make it worse I had just set up a Dedicated CODUO AWE 2.1 CTF server up the week before and had it on my PC ready to go... Using the smaller maps maybe better as having only 8 players max on a large maps becomes boring IMO. Also deathmatch just sux... COD (esp UO) is about Teamplay, not a bunny hopping, spam induced blastfest !. Just my Opinion though. The main reason I first came to a DGA was to play CODUO. I acknlowedge there are other ppl and a lot of other games they want to play. If theres anything that can be done to promote, admin, setup, help out with CODUO then I'm more than happy to help out.... Just let me know...
Anyway I had no ice melt and immerse my shoes so I'm one of the lucky ones... LOL :)
Quote from Mymatsu: Are there any Dates for the next couple of LAN's ??? Not yet mate. The committee is in the process of planning the next lan/s now. When we have a date/s confirmed and lock the venue in you gamers will be notified.

Thanks for the feedback. we welcome any good or bad feedback as it helps us tweak our LAN’s to provide more entertainment for the gamers.
In regards to FTP details there is a forum running on our intranet located at http://dga bookmark this URL and remember to visit it at your next DGA visit. There is a whole section dedicated to ftp user details.

I was the guy at the door when you came in and I ran the server... unfortunately I did not monitor it after the second level or so and was unaware that it was lagging badly.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to try and get any problems sorted before the next LAN regarding this.
It was also a 28 player server... but it never got to that point as interest dwindled significantly after the first map.
I did have the game set to CTF, I can't remember whether I adjusted it later due to some people on the server complaining that they wanted to play another mode. Maybe I should set maps with alternate modes - but even then there'll be complaints ;)
If you have any idea, by all means contact me via PM, email or just come see me at the Lan (ask one of the admins, they'll point you in my direction).
I Enjoyed DGA 35 tons! Unfortunately when my team won the Swat 4 comp, i lost my $30 because i owed my friend "0 and i had to shout breakfast the next day =(. ITS A SAD WORLD!!
I put my feedback on the wrong forum - so it seems. I will try a copy and paste. Yea it worked.
I thought the last LAN was much better organised. I really appreciated the timetable printout and it did help to have it up on the projector as well. Mungus has an extremely loud and clear voice, good for getting everyone's attention. Well done to all the admin who organise these events. It is sad to see that the numbers are dropping - I know it was a hard weekend with competition such as the Fred's Pass Show and Arafura Games, but even the LAN before was fairly short on players as well. What happened to TN1 and his followers? He was sprouting a lot on the forum about what he wanted to play at the LAN and didn't even come along! I would have liked to play Alien vs Predator2, maybe we could play that next time. Once again - well done, I for one really enjoyed myself.
my Spouting was for the previous LAN, i didnt go to the last one, of low numbers, with BF2 demo out soon, I AM THERE!!!! :D anh I will bring some of my friends, ... expect a big turn out ;)
