I am curious to this as I have just taken up guitar my-self. I want to know what playing music means to you and so on.
I have only just learned how to read tabs, have yet to understand proper chords and whatnot, but from what I've learnt I can play what I enjoy. Right now I'm trying to learn Metallica - Welcome Home. I can do the intro and first verse, tis about all - I'll get there. To me though being able to play along to your favourite bands is an awesome feeling.
Learning music as a whole is a whole different experiance for me. Soo relaxing and to think the posibilites are endless. I have yet to "jam" with mates because I am not good enough yet, but from what I've heard it tops the experiance as one of the best feelings ever in life, to be able to play music of your own with people.
So yea, I just wanted to see other peoples views and opinions. So please, continue.
I was taught to play guitar when I was a child, practicing actively for three and a half years... In the end, I didn't get anywhere, as the teacher I felt, didn't really stile her teaching for me. I quit.
I can play recorder, it was more or less a standard instrument for everybody in my school. I got quite good, and can still bust out a tune if I pick one up.
I also tried my hand at Piano, though not for long. Now I more or less teach myself stuff informally. Still having trouble with Eric Satie's Gymnopedie No1. though.
I also play a little on the guitar now though, trying to teach myself stuff as I go along, and now recently the Violin as well.
Personally, my life revolves around sounds, and music. I don't know what it is that I like about music, I couldn't say it's a single thing, but there's many elements of it.
Always wanted to learn the guitar. I have tried on many occasions to teach myself tabs but no luck. I need someone to show me how, might do proper lessons one day.
I used to play the Clarinet up until about 2 years ago and I took up the Guitar about 3 years ago for a year... I stopped taking lessons after a year and now its mostly taking up stupidly hard classical pieces and trying to learn them... For the kind of music I play it would suit me well to have a teacher. If I was to sit down and properly practice I probably could get somewhere but because I have not the dedication and time its frustrating for me...
heres a quote from Hixxy - it explains my interest in music
Hixxy. Music is my first love it will always be my last. Cant explain the freedom and the feeling from the bass, something just comes over me that nothing can replace, you tune in and close your eyes im living in a dream, hypnotized by something you’ve heard but never seen, the rhythm is a mystery the magic I can tell the beats the bass the melody just gets me in a spell, its a love of life so come and go what one will never pass, coz music is my first love it will always be my last.
Anyone got any hints for someone wanting to learn. Teachin myself, well attepting to. Any good learning books? websites? techniques? anything of use :)
Btw before anyone asks i'm into RnB but I love alot of guitary songs like Hotel California, Shimmer, Save Tonight, Time Of Your Life, Easy, Be With You and the list goes on... :D I realise most of those will be difficult but they're what i'm aiming to play.
