Games security lockdowns start

Quote:
SECURITY for the Commonwealth Games was now in full swing, with venues locked down after security sweeps in preparation for the opening next Wednesday. Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon said today.

In the largest security operation seen in Australia, more than 2500 military personnel will join Victoria's 13,000 police, other law enforcement agencies, and private security guards to protect the Games.

Airport-style metal detectors and X-ray equipment, tested at AFL matches last year, will be used throughout the Games and will be tested at opening ceremony rehearsals at the MCG on Friday and Monday.

Police and venue operators have new powers to search patrons and compel them to empty bags and remove jackets and other clothing.

During the Games, military personnel will examine vehicles in and around venues.

Exclusion zones will be established around venues, and Black Hawk helicopters, fighter jets and naval ships will be on standby.

Wonder if they'll just nuke Melbourne anyway to justify a war against Iran?

Whatever are you talking about, HeReTiC? I never mentioned trees.

Here are some questions for you, HeReTiC:

Why passively submit to an emerging slave state which entirely denies your most basic rights?

Why defer to some Neanderthal stormtroopers groping your sister\mother\girlfriend\wife to 'search' for bombs on her?

When did your sister\mother\girlfriend\wife become a defacto criminal?

Why won't you develop the testicular fortitude to defend your women from this dehumanization?

Why do you allow the state to dissolve the boundaries of person, and of private property?

Why do you allow the state to deny your individuality and submerge your manhood into some oceanic collective mob consciousness?

Why do you enjoy it so much when the state ruptures your insides with its giant bloodied fist?

I'm guessing the answer to all of these will be...

HeReTiC : "Because I'm a feminised pinko girlie-man"

You know, I can remember the first time some Stormtroopers groped me.

It started off well but then it turned out I wasn't the droids they were looking for and I was free to go on my way.

Seriously dude, go troll elsewhere. I understand you want to "shake up" people's perception of the world and its inhabitants but enough is enough.

Piss off.

zpc, the police dont pat down people as a way of getting their jollies. and they do it to people who look suspicious (ie wearing a turban....jokes). Would you prefer that we did nothing to secure events that are a terrorist target. Terrorists hit soft targets because they are easy to do. if you harden a target by police and army and stuff, it eitehr deters terrorists or has the potential to stop non-deterred terrorists. Its about reducing for a temporary time, the rights of a few people who walk around with duffle bags/ hiking bags, looking shifty, so that the rights of the many to...not be killed when attending a sporting match are not permenantly deprived

you cant have safety without rules and security, its plain and simple, and if there is a bigger threat (eg. fkn TERRORISM) then you will have to enforce laws and up the security, the only reason they are doing it is for the peoples saftey. i dont know why its so hard to understand.

Quote:

You're mindlessly echoing a phony dilemma you have been sold. Total anarchy is not the only alternative to a military-police state. Such a state cannot protect you against terrorist attacks occurring in the first place. In the second, such a state necessitates a progressive increase in the number\scale of terrorist attacks, and the perceived threat of such attacks.

So, by allowing the government to use this dialectical argument that each time there is an attack, we must expand the police state, you are ensuring that more attacks occur.

Quote:
and let any crackpot with an adjenda for terror just prance into our borders singing praises of a "free world" while pushing the little red button in his hip-pocket.

I see. Freedom is our weakness?

N.B. Your characterisation of the 'crackpot' bears a striking resemblance to the actions of government.

Only about ten years ago, talk of military taking over domestic law enforcement, in Western nations, was considered "conspiracy nonsense"...and yet here we are.

Actually i'm in Melbourne, though I mustn't be correctly attuned with the collective 'aura', because I don't feel threatened by imaginary bad guys. Have you ever been on the Connex City Loop, Jay? Have you ever seen people literally squeezed in, faces plastered to the glass? Why won't the government do something to prevent this? This is dangerous even *without* the supposed threat of bombs going off.

Quote:

No 'we' don't.

By 'they', I was referring to the blackop groups that carry out these false-flag bombings at the behest of International 'intelligence' networks.

Right, because I mean, ****... god forbid I should come to my own conclusions in believing that secure measures to prevent terror is a better alternative to NO measures, or minimal policing of the issue. Especially where an international event like the commonwealth games is smack-bang on our doorstep.

Funny how I havent seen you name ONE thing as an alternative, other than your carebear attitude of 'lets pretend its not there, and maybe it'll go away'. Or, 'lets pretend instead that the government wants total military control of its populace, and all this has absolutely nothing to do with the safety of its citizens'. Give me a ****ing break.

Post 22

.... the proof of the consipiracy is the lack of proof, it shows there has been a coverup.
and ZPC, the basis of any form of security is that it reduces some rights inorder to protect the far more important rights. ie; Airport scanners could be considered an invasion of privacy but its accepted becasue it prevents the larger deprivation of rights if someone hijacks the plane. This isnt a police state thing, its just how security works. if it didnt, then police wouldnt be able to crashtackle some1 with a gun when the guy is distracted, cause its "assault"

Post 29

ZPC wants less security to prevent more attacks?

How does expanding the police state ensure more attacks occur? Terrorists dont have the resources of countries.

The fear of terrorist attacks is being hammered into the public by the presence of high security. But it is a necessity in a world with brainwashed religious fanatical suicide bombers.

I guess that it dosn't matter how much security you have people will always be scared of terrorists that why its terror. But why make it easy for them.

Quote:
Or they could be using Military because a) It Has the funding and equipment b) They dont have enough police.

I’m sure that you are right, the Bracks government is more concerned with what is politically expedient, rather than upholding the principles of responsible democratic government; principles which preclude the use of military forces in any domestic ‘law enforcement’ role.

Quote:
OMFG...Wow, just..wow. Thats like saying my car is more likely to get stolen if I lock it up and take the key with me and that I should leave it windows down with the keys in the ignition with a sign saying free car.

I’ll give you a related analogy, but one that I hope will better illustrate what I am attempting to say:

One day, your car is stolen. This upsets you, and being in a state of vigilant determination to protect your property, you decide to hire a ‘reformed’ car-thief, named John, to protect your new replacement car. To your knowledge, John is entirely reformed, a new man dedicated to upholding the law, and using the skills of his criminal past in a constructive way, as a security man. You begin to pay John a salary of "000 a month.

Several months down the line, your replacement car is stolen! Now, instead of reprimanding John for his poor job of defending your property, you double his salary, and you even give him other benefits, such as the ability to drive your car on weekends. You do this under the mistaken assumption that by increasing his pool of resources, he will be better able to protect your property.

One year later, you move into a wealthier neighborhood in Happyville. You feel that the neighborhood itself provides sufficient security from the threat of car theft, and so you decide to dismiss John, with a bonus to thank him for his loyal work, the next week.

Your employee, however, already foresees the inevitable. Justifying his actions in the name of his wife and young child, both of whom depend on the security of his salary to live, John steals your car, utilizing the knowledge acquired during his earlier career as a car thief.

You again, though angry at the third theft, decide to extend John’s employment.

This analogy describes a simple situation of supply and demand, or more appropriately, the effects of behavioral reinforcement and psychological incentives. These factors should be taken into account when considering the “War against Terrorism”, in which billions of dollars, and millions of jobs, are involved. You are talking about the creation of entirely new, vast government departments, entire markets for weapons, services, and technologies. There are massively powerful interests involved.

Think of The Carlyle Group, Halliburton, Kissinger Associates, CIA put options on American Airlines, etc.

Quote:
How in gods ****ing name does more security mean more attacks. That doesnt make logical sense from ANY perspective.

"Security" is the euphemism the government uses for "police state".

Quote:

That’s cute that you don’t mind. However, we aren’t merely discussing your own opinion, we aren’t discussing a voluntary search, we’re discussing mandatory searches! I do not want to be searched, and neither do millions of other perfectly sensible people.

Quote:
There is enough random stabbings and attacks on people as it is.

Yes, last week in Melbourne there were 7 stabbings in 70 hours, and those were the well publicized ones. Why is it then that the government never properly punishes the criminals? Why do they instead punish the innocent, by escalating 'prevention' strategies, by searching people, by banning guns of those who would otherwise only use them in self-defence? Because the government has NO INTEREST in stopping crime, and reinforcing personal responsibility! Go read or watch "A Clockwork Orange".

Quote:
that simple act makes you a complete hypocrite. in what way does paying a woman for her body not objectify, commoditise and dehumanise her?

Does employment objectify, commoditise and dehumanize a person?

If these girls were living in extreme poverty, barely able to subsist on the market value of their labour, and thus ‘compelled’ (economically, not politically, mind you) to offer sex for cash, then I might agree.

However, Lucy Lee, earning ",600USD an hour from me, along with what she earns stripping and performing miracles of sexual grace in her porn videos, is doing rather well. She is hardly some ‘bang bang betty’ trying to escape from starving to death on the mean streets of the Phillipines. Lucy lives in the US, and could easily earn a decent living in more customary occupations of labour. Whether Lucy charges, or not, she is not being exploited if she enters into sexual relations with me, of her own free will.

Subjecting these girls to an involuntary molestation is the real crime, and that is what I am opposing.

Quote:

I appeal to all here; do you want somebody like this enforcing domestic law?

If you do, you might feel more at home in China, or even the USSA. :p

Post 37

Your analogy is completely ridiculous in nearly every facet of its argument.
It has no relation to a) reality b) the human condition or c) terrorism.

Your obviously a) young b) a student c) still live at home.

And given your personal "difficulties" that most of us are aware of it weakens your argument more.

Post 38

Oh, ffs if you think you're some kind of revolutionary you are sorely mistaken tard. What you're talking about is the military industrial complex and it's been around forever. There's been more literature written about it than you've had hot dinners. That analogy was retarded, and you seem to know absolutely **** all about economics in general let alone supply and demand.

I do not want to be searched, and neither do millions of other perfectly sensible people.

No interest in stopping crime? WTF, OK that is just the most stupid thing I have ever heard...period. Punish the innocent? You know what - I'd rather people...myself included...be subject to a search when entering a games venue then to be stabbed and killed - I don't know about you but in my opinion - Not getting Stabbed/Killed > Getting Stabbed/Killed and someone goes to prison.

Edit: OK then unban guns...now the people who use it for "Self Defense" can just shoot me instead...yay. It wouldn't solve anything and you are very naive if you think it would.
