I decided Odyssey dood rants about it.. Must be good. I put it on 4x and loaded up cs on dust. Didnt look any differnt. i never thought cs looked jaggy anyway.. snuffing off AA i decided to look more into my video card properties and discovered Anti-strophic Filtering so i set it to 8x and loaded up cs once again..
WOW.. i was looking down the tunnels in dust and noticed how it actually rendered the ENTIRE tunnel rather than blurring the image.
Wow did that look good [Blocked image] fearing my frame meter would suffer i took a peak.. 100fps [Blocked image] Although no one was in game :\
w00t w00t.. forgot AA ill use AF [Blocked image]

On Nvidia cards AA doesnt really seem to do much because of the way nvidia does Anti-Aliasing however the way 3dfx cards do AA it does make a significantly noticeable difference
its a rendering trick i noticed on my GF2mmx while playing serious sam 2 - it wouldn't completely render an image if it was more than a certain "distance" from the perspective of the player. it'd leave it slightly blurry rather than waste cycles on clarifying things that you likely wouldn't be looking at in the heat of the action anyway. I only really noticed it in hallways when turning suddenly
Flam, the Voodoo's have that 'blur thing in distance' too. Its called 'Level of Detail Bias'. Games like CS have several rings around the point where you are standing. As you move closer the detail quality increases and when you move away it degrades. I too can change this so my card renders all distances blurry (although I don't know why anyone would want to do this) or render all distances higher quality (what my card is permanently set to). UT has a very high LODB, that’s why the game looks so good close up and in the distance. 3dfx had a GF2 with 4x4 sample AA and a V5 in 2x Sample AA in Q3 and asked the public which one looked better. The people pointed to the screen with the Voodoo, but at the time they were not told which computer had the GF and which had the Voodoo, lol. So V5 2 sample is better looking than GF2 4x4 sample, that means Voodoo 4 sample is overkill and the V5 6000 8 sample and Q3D (3dfx chips) 16 sample AA is….well lets just say OMG. About your card, I think your cards AA Utility isn’t working properly because I have seen a GF2 running 4x AA, it didn’t look good and the game was unplayable but it was definitely visible. Try to reinstall the Utility. Locutus Hidden Surface Removal (HSR) isn’t LODB, the name says it all. HSR just stops your card rendering images that isn’t visible to you, eg: person behind a non-transparent wall.
PS. My signature was modified before I read this article, funny coincidence but appropriate.

i dont know how voodoos do AA, but nVidia, and i think ATi do it by displaying the image of the resolution you have set, but internaly, if the AA is set at 2x, the GPU renders the image at double the set resolution. thus 640x480 at 2x antialiasing is rendered at 1280x960 internaly, and thus has about the same jaggieness as if you were running at 1280x960. personaly, i prefer just to run the highter res and forget the AA, as it is poorly implemented on NVidia cards .. it comes out all blury for me, and i know its the same story for a few other people with NVidia cards.
I dont know what u guys see these "jaggies" cause i never see em maybe u need to run a high res [Blocked image] Maybe AA does nothing because the image does not look jaggy.

A higher res? I run mine on 1152x864. I think thats high enough. [Blocked image]

I agree that nVidia cards blur the image as my friends do the same. The best option for nVidia users is a higher resolution. As Locutus uses 1152x864, I prefer to use 800*600 with 4 Sample AA. I like 800*600 in all my games except TA which I use 960*720, that's the only one.(has anyone ever noticed a cheat in CS at 960*720 in DX with zoomable weapons, OMG) [Blocked image]

quote:
Originally posted by Flammable: ..its just i dont notice any jaggies.

lol, I used to say that when I used my TNTPoo [Blocked image] Everone always says that, even Locutus said that and now he uses it he can't go back, he's hooked I tell you. Its not until you use AA and then remove it that you appreciate it so much.

I can give it up anytime man, i'm not addicted, i'm not!
