i have finally decided on a new video card being the gf4 ti4200
it seems fair in price and decent in performance, the trouble is i have no idea on what brand to get??????
any thoughts? leadtek,albatron,asus,gainward etc??
price i expect to pay $350 to $400 for one

Go leadtek or asus figgy, they are more expensive but are better quality......Mr Money bags :D

How come you didnt post in hardware forum :?

Post 3

Soz forgot there was a hardware forum hehe!! :(

Also it depends it you want to spend a little extra cash Asus are bringing out a ti4200 Deluxe, memory is as fast if not faster than the 64 mg. Orig the 128 were slower. Also its on the 4600 pcb. But that only if you want to check that out. :)

Recommend Leadtek, but they're all pretty much the same. In fact all the cards are fairly similar, i know people who decide what card to get, depending on the bundled software. Leadtek is nice as it's resonably priced, comes bundled with overclocking software, and has that nice big juicy heatsink with 2 fans, probably not an issue for you but Darwin gamers must always take heat into account as room temp is so high to begin with(those of us without aircon anyway).

Now if I was a moderator for this forum I'd have this one moved to the Hardware section. *hint hint* :D

I'd probably go for the asus one myself.

Oh and to me the Leadtek is really LEAD.

Post 7

MSI have some nice extras squished into the box with their cards, but I really did like the management software that came with my leadtek GF2

Post 8

Leadtek or Asus for stability, Gainward are another good brand. they clock their ram the highest of all companies. very good for overclocking as well ;)

buuut MSI are also good...

i guess any known brands are good enough. just don't go for something like Suma ;)

Post 9

Exactly what is wrong with the Suma 4200??? Why must you cast judgement on them that they suck because they are a new and cheap brand??? Infact some of the cheaper ones overclock the best.

Post 10

unfortunately on what wortel said i'd have to agree with him

*bump*
The Triplex Millennium Silver Ti4200 is worth a look.

OOH it comes with spiderman and severence, nearly worth it just for the games, but then i already have them :)

Post 13

Everybody says the Spiderman game has shit game play and is a dodgy conversion from X-Box to PC. I think Locutus only bought Severence for the T-shirt.

I wub that t-shirt :D

Post 15

I dont know what models, or if the still do it, but the triplex cards all came in this funky silver briefcase..

Looked really cool. OK it was wank value selling, but it was a clever bit of marketing all the same..

Post 16

The silver PCB helps reduce interference and also dissipate heat better........interesting.

I think theoretically should fit in there.

Post 18

Actually the international testing ferm EMI verified that it reduces up to 47% of interferences compared to traditional PCBs.

excuse me dude, personal experience. i never passed any judgement on them because they "are new and cheap brand" i have used their cards: so quite frankly stfu. i have my own opinon on what i like and what i do not like, so don't start this shit...again.

my experience with their GF3 cards pissed me right off. Suma, no offence, never worked...ordered a card for a friend of mine (he was on a bit of a budget) so i got the suma card. oops, doa. sent it back and got another one. worked well for a little bit then there were lots of issues with the hardware. funky colours and some problems when posting.

sent it back and got another one. *sigh* ok yes it worked. but it just didn't perform as good as some other 'budget' brands. some issues with Framerate in quake 3 (ie was performing worse than my current Original Radeon...which never performed well in Q3) updated drivers never worked with the brand. got hold of tech support and they were bloody useless, told me to put the CD drivers back on, format and reinstall windows...bah to that.

eventually i did do a format and a reinstallation. put the cd drivers on and nope...still ran like shit.

i have played around with many a vid card since i took up computing as a 'hobby' and they just didn't perform. sorry if that hurts but build a bridge...

i have to say the suma ti4200 is pretty good though

gets overclocks stably of 315/625 and i havent found any software thatll let me overclock it more

but if anyone knows of any software i could try some more overclocks and give you guys the results...

it overclocks well, ill agree with wortel...

i always thought it was the green PCB which reduced the heat the best...:|

interesting...;)
