why do comindico suck? they are a carrier grade provider and handle an extremely large amount of data with no problems.

That's crap, comindico has the most roubust network in Oz, more so than either connect, optus or telstra, they are also the only telco/isp in Oz that are 100% Cisco.
Optus has nothing but a peering arrangement with them - like they do with other isp/telcos.
It might only be because Optus only use their network is the reason why when problems happen, more often than you'd think, it takes weeks to get rectified. But then i dont see why every month or so many Optus users have problems that occur at the point it switches over to commindico.
Just a few months ago i was getting routed to Optus's Singapore network and back to many servers in Melbourne which was the commindico network. This went on for about 2 months until Optus had enough complaints about it that they were able to put enough effort into making them fix it
Hahaha I know EXACTLY the problem that your talking about - that was a problem with Singtel (who bought out optus) bringing their guys into Optus and screwing with the routing (thus the trip to singapore). Had nothing to do with Commindico apart from the fact that optus customers went further to go to them (same for connect.com actually).
You cant blame commindico for Optus routing screwups mate - its a TAD out of their control :)

Yes Yes Neo is the smart one here, answer this one and if you say I dont know but say that yes the contract period is like 12 months, sorry but thats dodgey :?
But overall it sounds great and hopefully becomes a more standard thing amongst adsl providers int he future (prays anyway).
Harb: They were the BUSINESS plans - not the home plans - check the upload rates on them :)
Re: it wont last/contract - YES, there will be a contract BUT it is in your benefit, as the contract will state UNLIMITED data - thus for as long as the contract is running you are GAURANTEED no cap. So it will actually benefit you by - OzForces cant change the plans when your on contract.
Ah well if thats the case OD then beauty, depending on price (as you say it will be good) and the quality, it looks in a very good cond.

There are two potential contract "gotchas".

Comindico runs totally on Cisco underneath Solaris, with dual 155 Mbps of capacity between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, with 155 or 45 Mbps access to other Tier 2 sites (Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Wollongong, Newcastle, Southport, Maroochydore, Geelong and Hobart) and 34 or 45 Mbps links to our regional (Tier 3) POPS - servicing 98% of the country.
I dont know the specifics of their international link - i think its currently 155 through SCC (meaning its fully redundant.)

Yeah contract wise it would be a good thing, thats why me along with many others are still with Optus atm cos they couldn't force us onto the limited plans. Although it didnt stop them from thinking we were dumb enough to accept their "offer" to transfer us to the new plans :lol: :roll:

As for pricing of bandwith, you can strike very good deals with comindico if you can move inbound data - 1mbit is about 1800 a month, or with no negoation you can land 7c a mb.

Given that Telstra own/control approx. 90% of network infrastructure in Oz I find this a little hard to comprehend.
Do they own their own infrastructure ? or do an Optus and just wholesale rebadged Telstra stuff ?
If they own it - ie installed their own stuff - then they have kept it pretty quiet and done it very quickly ....
I would definitely be a little wary of this one .... having had abit of experience in this area my advice is to stick with who/what ya know. Sure new stuff comes a long but let someone else test it first ...

Just had a look at their web site and read all the glossies ....
My take is :
They use Telstra as their backbone - regional and interstate ... ie buy the bandwidth making them a wholesaler
Their internalional link is either Telstra or Global Crossing.
Their initial offerings are a "honeymoon" type of deals - build a customer base then when established start manipulating contracts/costs to be more profitable
They have their own POPs - which is good from their descriptions ... dual routers etc
No mention of future plans when their 2 x 155 Mb circuits are clogged - or if the load share across both effectively giving them 305 Mb but what happens if one breaks ?
MPLS is used to separate client traffic - so you will all share the same pipe - no mention of how they rate limit the client connections ....
So as other erstwhile people have stated ... caveat emptor
Another one to look at is Amcom ... they are a local Perth crowd with their own fibre in the dirt and have just commissioned an east west link
They plan to move into the eastern states in a big way ....
They provide point to point fibre links using a SDH based network.
They are not into the home market yet but have plans to move that way ... very cheap compared to T and O ... like about 65k a year for a 100Mb link !!
Well, just as an example, they colocate ausgamers.com (6 machines) for nothing - who offer the largest games related file mirror outside the US and EU, as well as a local ETG IRC server, a mirror server (offical mirrors of php, apache and mysql, and others) - as well as game servers.. last time I checked they were doing 15TB outbound.

do any of you know about www.netspace.com.au ? they offer (home plan ere) 512/128 with total of 11.5GB downloads (on peak and off peak apply) for only "00. To me, this does flush telstra down the drain in a big way.. .
Not to mention the fact that yes, they do run their own gaming servers and yes, have their own ftp's for downloading assorted files. Oh, and did i mention that Uploads were Unlimited?
And this is the final piece of the puzzel, to my knowledge it is available in Darwin, and as soon as im back, im getting it.. hope to be there in time for the LAN also :D
why bother with 11.5gb when you can have unlimited? :P :lol:

Hey Overdrive i pay "50 a month for adsl at 1500k and 16 gig a month download. Will this new service be around the same price and same speed cos if so sign me up! :lol:
After doing some reading, this is what I can gather.
Note*** I cannot guarantee anything I say here to be 100% correct.
It appears Ozforces will be releasing home dsl around the middle of January, if things go to plan.
512/128 Unlimited looks to be around "00 a month.
256/64 Unlimited looks to be around $80 a month.
Contracts look to be 12 months, there may possibly be shorter ones.
This is just to some up some of the major questions you may have.

Do you know if they will have a 1500 plan neo. i need lots of speed. and will this be really unlimited or they just say its is and when you download 100 gig in a month they kick you off. cos I was on dailup with iprimus unlimited and they said that an average download of 12 gig a month was to much and they didn't need customers like me!
Yeah, Iam pretty sure they'll have a 1500/256 Unlimited plan, around "50 I believe.
I haven't seen the contract statment, or an AUP - so as far as I can tell, it is truely unlimited.
Concerns have been brought up, stating the performance of the comindico network is bound to degrade if you have 24/7 leechers. Most Ozforces staff reply to this saying (in simple terms) the comindico network has a very phat pipe.... - If its going to hold under pressure all depends how popular ozforces is.
it'll probably be like dot, it'll be unlimited providing you don't stay online to long, or download to much :P
Well being an ADSL broadband connection, i would think that you could stay connected 24/7 but yeah I bet they'll speed shape it the more you download or during certain times

So, me being a noob about ADSL, could you tell me if you can just buy a modem for the ADSL instead of their routers?
You should be able to use any adsl modem, they should have a supported page, but yeah you dont *need* a router/adsl modem in one
Cool, cos after witnessing the problems with an ADSL router, i'd prefer a simple celeron with a few network cards as my router and use one of those billion modems. :)

you will need a line filter if you want to use a phone or fax or whatever on the same line as the ADSL.
there are a few ways to go about connecting a few computers.
you could....
have a little linux server connected to the adsl modem and buy a switch or hub connect through that to the server.
or (what i think is so much easier) modem/router with built in switch.
Thanks seqo, fuking telstra insisted I didnt need a line filter even thought i told em i would be using a phone as well - mind you the dumb bint on the other end was obviously clueless as she had trouble with the word "bandwidth"
I think the switch / router option is the go as my linux knowledge is not up to scratch yet. Do you know how much these things cost? and where I could buy one?

I applied for my OZForces ADSL around 17th of last month and have had extremely been VERY PISSED OFF as they barely reply to my e-mails about how things are going...
Is anyone else having such problems or atleast anyone in darwin?
I think i'm gunna apply with internode and already they quote me 2 to 3 weeks connexion which is fucked. What happened to their 5 days connexoin time?
Jesus all they have to do is get "techies" to flick the switch for christs sake!

Chycophy, read Ozforums for all the information you need.
In summary, Ozforces was going to send Darwin adsl users down to Adelaide, then to Melbourne (or Sydney?, can't remember) as a temporary measure while they complete their (COMindico's) direct line from Darwin to Melbourne (or Sydney), but instead have decided against that and are just pushing to complete the direct line ahead of time (causing 1 or 2 weeks delay).
Their undoubtedly going through many many emails (and phone calls) per day, as users all around Australia have enquires about their adsl status, hence the long delays, and again, you'll most likely find most of your questions already answered on ozforums.

erm. they have to say that to back themselves up. if they say you will be connected in five days they could be brought in to court under legal grounds.

Ahh it feels good... Their still having some speed/ping issues, but comindico promises to have these cleared up shortly.
Currently: My downloads jump around alot between 0kb/s and 35kb/s on a 512 plan. And my pings vary from 200-300 to Ozforces servers, and higher elsewhere. I'll give an update once these issues have been resolved.
so 200+ ping on adsl???? sounds a bit shitty man. And when it does clear up i doubt the pings will be better than node.

Im actually going to go Internode, they can guarantee correct speeds and if you are on flate rate you dictate whether or not you want good ping times.
