I've had my Linux router on for over a month at a time. The Netware server at work has currently been turned on for three months.
Both of them only had to be rebooted because of new software being installed :)

My comp could probably do those uptimes easily, but due to hardware changes and storms I have had to shut it down every now and then :(.
Firewall downstairs has been up 26 days.

either isp or telco disconnection. power outage would have resulted in the log not being written and me screaming blue murder.
it was with dingoblue before they went pansy and limited your time.

I voluntarily shut my computer down, saves electricity

Hehe, just remembered on of my mates in Canada had his Linux box turned on for about a week short of a year until a fuse blew in his house and it rebooted. He was VERY, VERY ticked off.
When it rebooted, one of its hard drives refused to power up, and one of the NICs was dead :P

I usually have my computer on for a few hours before the cops come around due to neigbour complaints about the noise.... j/k
I only have the computer on for as long as i need it for... too much win98se methinks :)
after having windows fall over after every 3 hours or so (WinMe) i just turn the comp off when i've finished with it. as far as I know the record for longest uptime is from linux, it's just far to stable. :D

actually, as far as i know, the 'record uptime' is from a NetBSD machine, www.uptimes.nu used to have an awesome database of machines and their uptimes, but they crashed recently and have only just begun repopulating, but they still have NetBSD as a winner, on 1 year, 334 days up (and counting i assume).
Linux box second on 1 year 37 days

And how far down the list 'til an OS that isn't Unix or a Unix-clone gets a look in?

Post 24
Bahaha!
When did they actually get around to fixing the 49 day bug that plagued older versions of Windows, just out of curiosity?

I am with that one too I can't sleep with my puter on so i have to turn it off.. I think its sick cause since i took everything out to clean its been sounding like a jet engine..
Post 27
I pay for my own power. Therefore I turn it off. It also heats the house.
I used to leave it on for days in Canberra, my computer heated my room at uni. Meant I never used the heater. (And I never paid for power)
Post 28
I turn the monitor off when I'm leaving my comp for awhile, but when I return I keep turning it off (power button software shutdown) because I think my Smelleron 1.3 is already off because it’s so quiet.
It’s funny, but annoying at the same time
Post 29
LOL thats why i dont have software shutdown :) If i happen to press the power button it wont do anything. There too damn silent

It's not a PC, but it IS a computer. It's got a CPU, input/output devices, and has an operating system :)

My slave computer at work has never been resatrted or turned off since installation 6 months ago, lcd screen has never been turned off.
Also has cisco switch and router all running on ups, never been turned off.
I am waiting for the computer to die very shortly, very suprised that i have had never had to reboot the machine before. Cannot say the same for the server it craps itself on a daily basis.

I'd count it as one, And note that Solaris too is a form of Unix 8)
Hope to get me a low-end SPARC box someday.
