Age Differences

Just wondering everyone's view on age difference.
Personally i dont have a problem with it but have always been undecided with younger people.
Heres my example, i met this girl last night named Tara, she is 16 yo. and i'm almost 21. so thats a 5 year difference, not much but considering our age it seems quite large. I plan to pursue this non the less, being causcious in certain aspects. Honestly i wouldnt even bother thinking about it if she was 18 and i was 23, so theres the underage aspect there as well...
Just wondering what everyone else thinks? what would you do?

When you're young (say 15-21) it all depends on maturity i guess. She can be 16, you can be 21, but if she is able to talk to u in a way that a 21 year old would then i find it ok, but if she acts like a kid, then yeh..

But saying that, she's a minor, your an adult...so that whole thing there too.

i thought 16 was the legal age..once they're 16 its not rape however how old you are.

16 is the legal age for them to start having sex, but its illegal if the person they are doing it with are more than 2 years older than they are.... i'm 20 turning 21

I agree with cow, it all depends on her level of maturity. I've met people about 14 - 15 who i've been able to have a decent conversation with and some people older than me who need a good slapping.

To help put it into context I'm 18.

Even when I was 18 I wouldn't touch a 15 year old, their maturity level is just there, I don't care if you think you can sit down and have a conversation with them and be entertained, they don't have enough life experience to satisfy me so I stayed away from em, I'm 20 going 21 too, my gf is 20 and I'm more then happy, younger people just annoy the shit outta me.

There's this one dude I know, Ph3nom3non (Alan), he's a little dickwad, but at least he's slightly mature, think he's 16, I can put up with him no worries, but normally younger shits annoy me.

It's your choice buddy, I don't think you should care what anyone else says, if YOUR interested in dating this chick, then fine date her, just obey the law, and it will all be good.

Darwin sucks in the women department.

Since I, in highschool, made ruthless fun of the the 20-somethings who were snapping up the highschool girls I wanted so sincerely to root, I now have an iron-clad rule: if she's in highschool, she's off my list. No ifs, ands or buts.

I will understand you if you chose to go after highschool chicks - they're pathetically easy because they think you're "so mature", you have a car and you earn an amount of money that they think is "a lot" (ha!). But I'd recommend against it. It'll just lower your form, women your own age will respect you less, and you'll discover that girls are hopelessly romantic and that she'll want to be with you forever and ever and ever and have kids and grow old with you, and whatever other romantic crap she can dream up.

Hmm... I dunno - I'm 17 now, and I would never consider talking to a 13 year old, or 19 when I was 16. This is in the talking to, not going out with - im going on about friends. Now that im 17, I am quite fine talking to 14 year olds, (13 is still too immature for me). I even talk to people up to age of 21 really (these are people I've met of course). It's pretty bizarre. I guess now im 17 I realized that 21 year olds are still young at heart and not even really old.

My cousin, who is 20, turning 21 in a few months, also has some sort of disease. Cistic Vibrosous or something. (That's definitely NOT how you spell it). And he will be lucky to live til he's 22. And I think that's sad of just how young he is still.

Is anyone else disturbed by:

Back to the point, I think age matters shit all, it's all about physical attraction, personality, and maturity. You may think it's shallow saying physical attraction, but if you face the facts, I don't know many guys that will go out with a butt ugly fat chick, no matter how nice she is. I know there are men that like that sort of women, I just don't know any that's all.

I am 16, i wouldn't go out with a 21 year old till i am 18. I have never been able to date some1 my own age or younger.. too immature

I think its real gross fat chicks walking around with real skimpy clothes and their fat haning over their tight shorts/mini skirt, when they put their arms up in the air all u can see is their disgusting stretch marks (i will agree that darwin is filled with alot of them) and they think they are so good looking what the hell is with that? as Lee said, who cares what others think, if she has the maturity level that you can handle go for it, just be warned most girls 10-17 have the whole "romantic" idea of having a bf, which can be a real sh*t. They need to have some experience in life and love. Age difference doesn't account for much, friends parents are 12 years apart, so think of it, when he was in year 12 she was in grade 1, however once you hit the age of 25, age difference means nothing to anyone else.
personaly my age range is 18-22, 2 years difference either way, is enough for me (i'm 20).

As for skanks, yes darwin has LOTS!!!! just take a walk in the cas eatery at about 3:30 on a weekday. Poles in Gs and big mammas in clothes 10 times to small.

I have a friend that's only just turned 14 and her and I can talk quite normally.

hmmm i think in this scenario the age gap is too large. the difference between a 16 yr old and a 21 yr old is huge, both in maturity and physical development. no mature how mature she seems, she'll always be one step behind you until she becomes a 'proper' adult. whether this is sooner or later is besides the point - we are talking the now rather than tomorrow. maybe things will work out, you can always be optimistic.

as for skanks, darwin has too many. i go to CSC with some of THE finest looking girls in darwin, and a general rule of thumb is that if she's hot and doesn't have a boyfriend, it's coz she's rooting everything in sight (generally the skaties and 'popular' people). why settle for one guy when you can have em all? occasionally, if you're unlucky enough to fall for a sweet young slut you'll feel like breaking faces. if skanks are your thing then great, join the line. if you're like me, you'll probably keep her at arms length with her face pointing away. i ain't smelling no semen breath biatch :roll:

I agree, I once knew someone who kept going on about how sexy her boyfriend was. As she was very attractive herself, we were interested to who this guy was. One day she bought a photo of him and it was a picture of this guy who was overweight and bald.

i'm a bit of a cynic ;). biologically no one was ever meant to respond to personality - it's looks and vitality that initially attract someone, because it demonstrates a healthy gene donor and ensures the survival of your lineage. however we have evolved since then (some of us: i happen to know a few simians myself :P), and personality does add an extra element to the relationship. personally i couldn't stand being in a relationship with a really hot braindead chick with no personality. but either way, you've got to be turned on....

There are legal/social implications that rise from age differences, if they bother you then they bother you.

If it doesn't bother you, whats to worry about.

And while some people would like to cry out the line "appearance doesn't matter", I know it does affect me and I'm not gonna fool myself or anyone else by thinking otherwise - it's most definitely not the only thing I care about, but I'd be foolish to deny it.

I'd like to know what a 16 year old and a 21 year old actually have in common. You two are in different worlds all together.

It seems that you have a problem with people that don't look like sticks. Why are you so blind that you can't see that these (socalled)ugly people have the right to dress and do whatever they please. It isn't your god given right to make fun of them just because they don't look like you.

im the only person in year 12 at my work and all the chicks are either dogs, have no personality, or to young. near all of them have 2/3 but that aint good enought, the main thing is age though. im 16, 17 in sep and wouldnt think of going out with anyone under the age of 15. i get along well with all the chicks at work and i reckon i may have even have a chance with one or 2 of em, but there is no way that would ever happen in the near future cause they are to young and its just wrong.

Unfortunately its human nature and takes place on either the conscience or subconscious level everytime we meet somebody. Looks aren't everything, however I think that's already been stated.

I don't wish to cause anymore hassle overthis issue. So I shall not post agin on this topic.

Personally i would be lieing if i was to say i dont care about looks. You cant go out with someone unless you are in some way physically attracted to the person. That being said, My opinion of attractive is different to others. Tara for example was discribed to me by one of my mates before i met her as being a cross between my old neighbor, who had so many frecles and pimples it wasnt the nicest sight to look at, and another friend whos face is all Fucked up (excuse me for saying this, i have to emphasize these traits to get the picture accross). Yet i find her extremely attractive, even though she might not be through someone elses eyes. The point i'm trying to make is, that not everyone is viewed the same way, by different people. and saying that the woman has to be attractive for me to want to go out with her, doesnt mean she has to be a super model, she just has to have a qualaty that i find attractive in her, and thus i dont notice the rest.
The issue with overweight skanks wearing skin tight clothes, doesnt sound like something i want to see. Personally i feel that wearing a little more conservative clothing, looks better on that type of person. But hey some guys might think she is hot, i mean there are chubby chasers out there... This isnt the best issue to make a comment on as you are bound to critisised for your opinion.
And on a final note:
I called Tara tonight, i did want to go out on a date with her this weekend, but unfortunitly she is busy. But we are going to the movies on friday night with a few other people. And we are yet to really discuss the whole going out thing as yet, but i'll keep you informed for who ever is interested...

I think overweight people should NOT wear skimpy clothing, whether they are comfortable in it or not I find it repulsive. There is NO excuse for being overweight (medical conditions excluded though there are few of these) and the need to flaunt your own laziness is disgusting and a sign of little self respect. That being said I do not let my views prejudice me against overweight people, I have many friends/family that need to lose weight however I see that it is their decision. That guy on 60 minutes that weighed over 320kg and trying to lose weight, well I think he's pathetic. Goes to all this effort to lose weight, then you see him going shopping and you see him load up on junk food, well that fool made his own bed, and he's the only one lying in it.

w00p I wouldn't take any of this to heart, it's only an internet forum, I find most people are not as open when you talk to them face to face as they are online, something about sitting in your own environment gives a feeling of security where you don't have to face the reality of what your saying and how it reflects upon other people. Everyone will always be nice to your face. That being said I'm more then happy to repeat everything I type out loud to anybody!

So 16 yr old girl = 18/19 yr old boy - general rule of thumb and there are exceptions on both genders

Looks/beauty is in the eye of the beholder - some like looks some like whats inside - each to their own

As to the original topic - if you two are compatible - likes/dislikes etc able to converse meaningfully and generally get along well then go for it - do not get hung up on age differences - if ya dont get along well together then talk about it and be honest and up front with each other - dont let others influence your life

where to begin.... . okay, so fat is bad yeah? well we all know this, but what is fat, overweight, obese to a person? some people think that size 16 or even 12 is overweight (and those people suck) although to other people, overweight isnt till your size 20 or higher, everyone is different. Im large, and it sucks. my self esteem is low as, but then i look at my beautiful friends who think they are ugly as well.... so where are we at then? So far as the teeny clothes on larger gals, i have friends who do that, and yeah, it looks like crap, but wether you like it or not, they feel good about themselves when they dress like that, and for it, have heaps of friends and people who love them for them. to most *mature* people, beauty really is only skin deep and if someone is confident, people see it... thus your 'fat skanks' getting all the guys. they are confident in themselves and you dont even come into their equasion.
but then there are people like myself who play wallflower because we dont want to 'offend' those people out there who dont like larger people. id have to say that those who dont like people just because of their size are free to think what they like, but people who are teased most their life have a whole new way of viewing the world, where they realise a persons personaility is ultimatley the most important feature.

oh... and as for the age thing. there is 5 years between me and Meph, we get on fine and besides me sometimes not knowing shows he watched as a kid or songs he listened to, there isnt much we cant relate with.... although, then again, women are more mature than men. :wink:
If you want to date this girl, feel free, just dont sleep with her (there are cops, laws and parents, as well as emotional to deal with) if the 'underage' thing is what your liking, leave her alone, im sure there are plenty of LITTLE GIRLS (thats what they are!) that you can feast your eyes on :P (by the way, i am against the whole 'underage' thing....)

I've only been hit on by gay guys like 2 or 3 times.... except this one time when I pretended to be gay to get free drinks (for everyone, took one for the team), but I told the dude after about 3 drinks I was straight, but he was still friendly to me... anyhooo.....

The University of Sydney and its surroundings. I also spent a fair amount of time in and around the CBD, and at 3am Oxford St is usually still open for food & coffee.

I mean it was a mixed blessing. The University of Sydney campus is like stepping into heaven. Talent everywhere, top shelf, smart. A lot of the girls are witty and attracted to smart men. Just my kind of place. It took me a whole year to come to terms with the fact that I could be as smart as I liked, and nobody would complain.

YES, SYDNEY UNI IS QUALITY! I dont go there.. I missed the cut by like 1.5 UAI points... oh well.... which is rather annoying

anyhoo, Yeh, Syd U, Newtown and Oxford St, and Darlinghurst and stuff has alot different types of people because they are trendy places (i.e uni students, gays, and your various assorted "beautiful" people) in Sydney.

And well... me and my friends go to a private school... so we were your typical selective school students using our wit and skills to acquire free alchy lol :wink: which is sorta a horrible thing, but we brought that due drinks later, so it was all good :lol:
