softc0cks ACCC
Post 3
I personally believe the dsl wholesaler should not compete in the retail area also.
Post 4
What jay said - Cocky, get back to your construction yard mate....
Post 5
So they've dropped their retail prices, but not their wholesale prices... so other providers can't compete? Absolutely pathetic. Telstra back up to its old tricks, indeed.

I thought that the prices were good with other ISP's and now you want it more cheaper bah its allways going to be Telstra aginst everyone else
your coments will never change.
and why havent i changed to another isp im with Telstra and it works for me its just all you ppl just want to have a bitch..
come work in the Telstra Shop and see it through my eyes what a bunch of ass holes ppl can be
Post 7
You've missed the point, other ISPs cannot go cheaper because of the whole sale prices Telstra are charging. other ISPs cannot meet Telstra's new prices, as it would decrease their profit margin to a point where it's almost not worth it... What I mean to say is, err, what? Form a coherant argument, and maybe I'll be able to reply with a reasonable retort.
Post 8
Telstra ISP prices are great.
the prices telstra charges OTHER isp's aren't in line with that tho, which places the other isp's at a disadvantage, thanks to telstras monopoly over the exchanges. in order to compete, they have to pay telstra wholesale for access to the exchanges, and evidently, they get charged more than telstra bigpond.
Post 9
so we have an expert in the house when did u start at the ACCC?
Post 10
LOL cocky the smart alex hehe.
What people are saying mr cat poo poo head, is that the prices are ok for telstra retail, but they are charging too much wholesale so that others cant compete.
Now, if telstra where forced to drop their prices wholesale, others could compete, therefore forcing down the price overall and we could all get it cheaper.
Therefore, you are backing Telstra keeping prices for broadband so high, when in other countries, it is DIRT CHEAP.
Have to agree with the others cocky.
Hang on, have to answer my optus mobile. Pftt, what am I saying, i cant get reception here. Im at least 2 metres from a tower....
Post 11
another expert :P
Post 12
Your funny cocky - listen to OD hey ;)
Post 13
we dont have to be experts, we're customers and we have a right to be pissed off. if you dont like dealing with pissed off customers, get out of retail.
Post 14
i didnt say i didnt like it so whats ur point?
Post 15
the first sentence, that you completely ignored.
Post 16
The Telstra pricing will now be in line with the other providers which makes it more fair.
Telstra had high prices before and/or the value wasnt the same as what others are. But if they drop there prices, bigpond customers will be happy instead of going to other providers cause telstra wholesales was ripping telstra customers off.
How about telstra puts all its exchanges on the market to sell and see how many companies could afford to sustain the ongoing to run the network?
Then they cant complain that they are telstra exchanges anymore.
But let me guess, someone will find something else to complain about, like my adsl line is out, or there is no data flow.
Telstra- Sorry guys but its not our problem, thats a internode exchange. Our payments are up to date to use that exchange so you can call to complain. But I think internode didnt pay the electricity bill this month as they cant afford it, so the exchange doesnt has power to allow for the port to work. Sorry again.
Neway, it wont stop there, but as long as Telstra has to suffer everyone is happy and that is what they call fair trade.
If your not happy with your provider switch back to Telstra and reap the benefits of being with the monopolizing giant of Australia :P
Peace Out
Post 17
The ONLY reason Telstra can afford them Raker is because there fully Government backed. No other reason. If Telstra is fully privatised, you watch there customer service go down, profits go up, prices go up and reliability go down. Happens every time. Optus can afford the exchanges and Im sure overseas backed Vodaphone could too so thats a load of balonie.
See how the only people here who back Telstra, WORK for Telstra. Take the blinkers off, time to wake up and smell the flowers... :)
Post 18
You only have to compare Australia's(Telstra) telecommunications model, with say America, alot of Europe and even parts of Asia, to see how pathetically 3rd world we have it, and have had it for so long.
Oh well with so many decades of practically being a mismanaged, fully funded government department\political entity, what can you expect?
Post 19
The US used to be so far behind us in terms of phone and internet services. (even in the mid 90's)
Now we are lagging far behind them... Wonder why
Post 20
Good On Telstra i recon. they Are the big dogs...therefor they can do what they fucking want. just because they wholesale doesnt mean they arent able to retail as well. look at half other the other retail computer companies. they do the same thing, just not on this scale.
Screw The ACCC. cheaper prices of me :D
Post 21
I think what it comes down to is Fair Trading
Post 22
... or lack thereof.... some people make funny comments hey - showing a COMPLETE lack of understanding... oh well, ignorance is bliss eh...

Three words: Conflict of interest.
Kinda like someone screwing your sister AND your mum.....
Post 24
i always thought that was something to brag about
Post 25
depends.. is your mum hot?
Post 26
shit. uh, if YOU were the one doing the screwing that is, not if its your mother and sister getting screwed, ugh. stupid double entendres
Post 27
You cant sit around in a business and wait for someone to say wether what you are doing is "fair" or not. Do what makes money. if it does...then they did it right, just because some people may not like it doesnt make its unfair.
Post 28
It all goes back to where it's screwed. Telstra is now only partially government owned. Like half a circumcision. Which just doesn't work.
Post 29
Heretic, you're obviously missing the point.
There's a huge different between "fair" - like me getting a porsche and you getting gang raped by convicts.
And "fair trading" - like industry owners granting traders of their product the opportunity to diversify and create a competitive market with the seller themselves. If they aren't given an opportunity to compete with them, they would have never commited that financial suicide in the first place.
Post 30
lol Rec I like Your Analodgy. But its still the same deal, there probably isnt any Law Or Contract saying exactly "how low" Telstra can sell their product. Like i said they can do what they want and they obviously did. Its upset some people, but the same people as C0cky said were whinging that the prices were too high before. :| I guess you can never win when it comes to business.
Post 31
look everyone here say telstra is gay.. well dont use them.. i think there doing good.. they not only are an isp but a mobile provider and a land phone provider thats a big job. They dont just do internet like node and shit so they got to take care of a lot more.. thats why node and shit are soo good cause they are only providing internet... sometimes telstra fucks up.. boo hoo we cant do anything about it they own the phone lines.. so they can do what they like.. if you owned telstra you would do the same thing and dont say you wouldent cause most of you are gready shits!! its a lot eaiser to be a sheep and follow everyone else..
Post 32
I think the point is that while Telstra's price cuts may be benefical in the short-run, this sort of predatory pricing will hurt consumers in the long run. It allows Telstra to unfairly undercut the opposition, steal customers and if unchecked could potentially result in a monopoly situation, which I'm sure you're all smart enough to realise that would be bad for consumers. Or so the system is supposed to work. My personal opinion of the ACCC is another matter completely :D.
Post 33
Go Telstra !!
They are my ISP and I am a shareholder ....
They make a good profit each year ... ".5 b ..
Any other Telco has the right to install their own equipment in a "Telstra" exchange and use the backbone infrastructure - for a low rental price - this is different to the ISP's who merely purchase the service at a wholesale rate.
Optus do the same ..... just a big wholesaler of Telstra services.
If Telstra is fully sold off then be very aware that whoever then controls it will have the ability to jack prices and as the majority of other Telco's/ISP's depend on Telstra wholsale pricing there prices will go up as well.
So be careful what you wish for ... at least with the Govt. owning 51% we have some control over it but imagine if it gets bought by some overseas Telco ....

Honestly 'we' have no more control over Telstra than i have over the Queen.

Yeah, all of a sudden we would have competition, bidding, price wars, and probably a reduction of costs.
The important thing here is infrastructure. Who owns it and how it is shared.

Whilst the govt. has 51% ownership the collective "we" have a lot more control than if totally privately owned .....
Not correct as someone said its who owns the infrastructure controls the wholesale costs of on-selling services - so Mr Overseas Telco buys Telstra - bingo all profits go overseas - no control over pricing - a real Telco Monopoly ..... so as I said be careful what you wish for ...
Post 37
Telstra is farked, just wait till the government sells off the rest, they are only going to get worse.
btw cocky, which store you work at, cause there is one little cocky smartarse working at the Cas' store that has to learn some sales/customer relations and fast.
That's another thing, while I'm on the topic of customer service. Darwin has this attitude "i don't give a fuck about the customer attitude" and it is pissing me off. Coming from Melb' where if you go to a place and the service is shit you don't go back and you tell your mates not to go there. Well if we all did that Darwin will die and no one wants to go out anywhere and I mean anywhere and get bad service, it just shit's me to tears.
Sorry for going off topic but it just had to be said, learn some customer service skills people if you are going to be in contact directly with the customer for farks sake...
Post 38
ohh Jadaski if your calling me a "smartarse" then come say it to my face
Post 39
he was calling the person that served him a smartass.
Post 40
the person I was calling a smartarse was a young guy with spikey blonde (sandy) hair...
btw the way cocky...i was not calling you a "smartarse" but I will be more then happy to chuck my phone at you when I cancel my phone line, then I'll be happy to call you a smartarse...
ohh ohh, I think that's Optus on the other line...I might answer it and see if they give me better service. Better still, 1CellNet or offering phone calls from your mobile to any phone from around 5c to a max of 17c a mintue, if anyone wants to know anymore about the great offer 1CellNet can offer you, PM me.
Thanks
Jada
Post 41
My hair is sort of spikey, at times. It's also sort of sandy if that means brown... but hey it could have been me.
In the case it might have been me, I'm more than happy for you to tell me why I was so unhelpful and such a smart arse - although regardless of who it was, looking at the tone you're taking in your posts, if you talk with the same attitude in real life, no wonder they were rude to you.
The tests run from the Telstra shop are right. Not the tests on the sign up or query page, not any test that is web based for customers. These web based tests might well give you a good idea, but are in no way difinitive. The tests run from the store send an electrical signal down the line in question and then come back with a yes (definately), no (definately) or a maybe - meaning we need to get a technician to check it out. If you were told no after a test had been run and felt you were simply being given the cold shoulder, that's probably because it really is that simply - we punch in a few numbers, then tell you yes, no, or maybe... that's it.
Post 42
even i hate this guy!!!
