that's the one thing that is keepin consoles under PC's - the ability to upgrade. No need for upgrade with the PS3, it's the biggest beast...

The PS2 was meant to be the biggest beast and the thing that would kill PC's. Sony said it themselves, the PS2 even had the capability to launch nukes ;).

With that said, considering the age of the hardware which is going onto like 4 years now, just look at games like MGS3 :shock: . While the PS2 no doubt is lacking in the textures and lacks pixel shaders the game still looks great. Poly count, physics and awesome particle effects is what the PS2 does best and MGS2 and 3 make good use of it. Baldurs gate dark alliance is another PS2 game which looked awesome.

Gamecube, well Nintendo have almost lost the plot I reckon, they really have no clue at all anymore. Anyone who saw thier E3 press conference would know where im coming from :roll:

Xbox, good console but really lacks the backing of Japanese developers which is a shame. Halo 2 is by far enough to warrant me keeping mine though ;P.

Dreamcast was by far the best of the recent consoles though :D, SNES, PSX and DC have been awesome consoles. Those days it seems have gone now which is why I now just focus on PC gaming. I will prolly pick up xbox live though just so I can trash talk all those Americans :D

Well the short of all that, I consider the DC apart of the PS2, xbox and GC generation so my vote goes to the DC as the best ;P.

But Gamecube has really cute games, which the kiddies seem to love :wink:

gamecube kicks ps2's ass. A real gamer looks at the gameplay of a game. And well quite frankly the only good game ps2 has that gamecube doesnt have a counterpart that completely puts it to shame is the GTA games.

Anyway my Gamecube and my Dad's PS2 manage to co-exist in the same house without any prob's so I don’t see why everyone needs to prove which one is best.

man, say what you want about the gamecube, but the ps2 is still the number one console in the world with over 50 million sales world wide

bearing in mind, the ps2 was the first of these three to be released. i think time will tell who is the real winner.

Hehe... nah, definitely kidding. I thought it was, and I got that and the GameCube! If Nintendo didn't screw up Zelda it would be good. Tell me, does anyone remember before it's release, they had commercials on it, with some 2 second trailors from all these games? Well, there was two or three Zelda ones shown, and all of them were just GOOD Zelda... none of this 2d-ness crap. Omg... what a way to screw up a game. PS2 pwnz everything. While Xbox might have MotoGP 2, and Dynasty Warriors 2, and DoA 2... PS2 has MotoGP 3, DW 3, DoA 3.... it's just THAT far ahead. Only thing in the Xbox I'm looking forward to is Halo 2. And hoping they might bring Driver out on it :) - GC... well, the games are hella cheap :) so I might get Tony Hawk :)

personally the only reason you would shell out any money for a console would be the games. Screw the graphics and power etc Gameplay is where its at, you want Uber speed and sound and graphics buy a computer. Every game you get on Xbo and PS2 bar like 1 or 2 you can buy on computer with 10000 better quality.

Nintendo rock! Gotta love mario... Nintendo knew how to cater for both young and old at the same time. IMO Gamecube was a big flop. Nintendo could have done better... WAY BETTER! PS2 is the console at the moment... good from the moment of release till even after all the 'competition' is out. btw... if Nintendo didn't lose Rare and Squaresoft then they would be the best console ever

Nintendo keep a tighter lease on developers of games for their console. The average quality of games released for console is by far higher on the gamecube than any other platform. I don't think I've played a nintendo game I haven’t enjoyed, but I show as hell have played some shocking PC, PS and PS2 games. Can't comment on XBox as I haven't touched the console.

Im going for Gamecube, seeings as I've got one. Apart from my Playstation its the only console I've ever bought, purely because its the only one I see as being worth buying. Plus costing me less than $200, can't go wrong :)

Hey, dont get me wrong, but I love Nintendo they do make awesome games I still have my original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in workin order, I occassionally play is still now, but Gamecube is good, I like it (my cousin has one) But PS2 is the bomb, I love it, especially Pro Evolution Soccer 2, PES 3 is out soon :D

ps2 has the worst controllers as well imo. although they are jumbo, the xbox controllers feel pretty good because its all smooth whereas the ps2 is all jaggy and isnt really moulded for hands. the gamecube control is pretty sex too. i remember when i first held a N64 controller after using SNES controllers for so long. i was like "!!! it is like an extension of my hand" i reckon that was pretty cool. using one now though, theyre uncomfortable as hell compared to a gamecube or xbox controller. mmmm

I reckon an Optical Mouse is even more comfortable again :D

well, id say xbox *cringes from fear of never ending rain of hate*. but that said, its the only one ive played alot on, halo rocks, doa3 rocks, enter the matrix has its cool bit, futurama the game is hilarious, Brute Foorces is cool, pity it wasnt a FPS though. thats off the top of my head. sure alot o them are on other console/platforms but they play well on the xbox. and i like the xbox controllers, none of that pussy tiny little shit, go the beef.

personally though ill take my pc any day, better range of games, more advanced graphics, better controls, higher res, awesome sound with the right setup. does ahell of alot more then purely play games, such as let me browse these forums.

ps1 and ps2 design for the control pads are the best by far.. n64 = gay xbox = uber gay..

i'll concede that in the handheld markets nintendo commands dominance, but only after carving a niche for itself with addictive, simple, kids games. i don't see much of an advance in innovation and gameplay in mario 64 or any of the newer versions, and i'll take the original mario bros. any day. i find the range of games for GC to be too childlike for my tastes. yoshi reminds me of Barney the purple dinosaur, and compared to the likes of halo, MGS, tekken, GTA, GT, driver etc. nintendo has nothing. i dont know about up there in darwin but down here in brisbane you can get a chip put in so you can play ps2 games with a ps2 controller... kinda like adds a lil thing under the xbox, with the ps2 ports...

i think thats pretty cool... and anything the ps2 had it just ate up...

In NO WAY is the Gamecubr kiddy. if you had owned one you would have noticed just how well designed it is. the loading time, the graphics, and the fact that you can play mario and Zelda. there are a million and one games that are all the same as PS2. the only different ones it doesnt have are the GTA3 etc. sort of games. PS2 is still good. but not as good. seen as you can have alot more fun with the gamecube.

1st: GameCube
2nd: Playstaon2
3rd: X-Box (waste of money)

You should rate the XBOX lower than the Dreamcast, PS1 and N64 :wink:

Cause no PS2 emulator has succesfully been completed yet, tho there are a lot in the works, and I'm unaware of a GC one. The X-Box should emulate easily cause it's basicalluy an entirely integrated computer.

ps2 will always be the best regardless of the time on each console being brought out into shops, because it has alot of the best games.... GTA, MGS, Tekken Series, and G turismo JUST to name a few......

the new ps3 will interesting, sony claims that the ps3 should be the center of ALL home entertainment, surpassing TV, Stereo, and maybe even PC, (but i find that hard to believe)

not only that, sony reckons they'll make it up to 1000 times more powerful than the ps2. sounds kinda far-fetched, but hey- sounds pretty nice.

PS : sony ALSO reckons that they aren't using normal graphic card technology for the ps3, infact they're now using some 'futuristic' graphics technology called "cell" graphics (formerly called "grid" or vice-versa)

The reason I love the GameCube most *is* that the games are different (or kiddy as you say).

If I want to play a racing game or FPS or RTS style game I have my PC to do that. But with the GC I can play something completly different.

Xbox is the console for me.

To put an argument about xbox just being a PC in a box or simply that its an intergrated PC is stupid. On some levels it is, like the HDD but other than that it's the same as the other consoles. OMG teh PS2 has a HDD and network adapter as well!! it's just a PC now so why not just get a PC. lame.

All the consoles use computer technology in some form...GC uses a video card made by ati and a cpu made by apple.

The PC emulating consoles so why do you need a console thing is also stupid lol. Not even the N64 or PSX emulators are perfected yet, still have to tweak and generally screw around trying to get it working right. Be another 3-5 years before it becomes worthwhile for the current gen consoles.

Im happy just to play PC myself and think all the current consoles are hopeless. The dreamcast was light years ahead of any of them in so many ways. MGS3 and Fable are the only two games that come to mind that might be worth getting. Xbox is the best for multiplayer sessions, NHL hitz and NFL blitz are two kick ass 4 player games, Halo was excellent but its coming out on PC soon so ill be playing it on that (yay for adsl). Gotta pick xbox because it gets mostly superior ports of PS2 games anyway and im abit of a framerate and image quality whore ;P.

Xbox wins easy for multi, PS2 is mute cause of its 2 controller ports (OMG awesome) and Gamecube doesn't have much....of anything actually. Mario kart mabye but personally I think it looks stupid, they've tried to hard. Can't go past the SNES version and the N64 one was cool, they're all you need :).

Here's some reasons why people might *gasp* play consoles as well as PC. Goldeneye, fighting games, racing games, sports games, action/adventure/horror games(doom 3 might change this :D), japanese RPG's, platformers, arcade games (light gun games etc). Could be more but I wont bother.
