I guess you have to wait until it's the 12th in the US as well, mate. And no, doesn't look like there's a pre-load for it.

I had a game last night, only got to play about 30 minutes so far what I have seen is looking to be a good game. I made a character Sabuk (random name) of the USS Devron ;P
the controls are very simple and easy to work out in the end. The graphics are awesome so smooth on my system. I'll give it another whirl tonight but chances are i'll be pre ordering it by the end of the week

Just finished my first play session. After completing the tutorial I hooked up with rec and we did a couple of missions together.

Have to say overall the game is really cool. Graphics are superb and the game runs very smoothly. A little disorienting at first with all the things to learn, but any MMO is like that the first time you play.

Keep an eye out for me - my beta char is a Trill named Shitma Dax of the USS Essessyoo.

Yeah the learning curve isn't the gentlest - but I expected that, having never invested any time in a mmorpg before. Enjoying it so far, though.

Cryptic have just announced their subscription fees, and it's pretty much what one would expect:

                    1 month USD$14.99
                    3 month USD$41.97
                    6 month USD$77.94

Also though, for a "limited time" (until the game proper launches maybe?) you can get:
                    • A 12 month subscription for USD$119.99 (which is USD$60 cheaper than month-by-month), recurs at the same discounted price and comes with two additional character slots, or
                    • A Lifetime one-off subscription for USD$239.99 with two additional character slots AND you can create a "liberated" Borg character.

Explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly go in this expanding vast universe.

It's obviously hard to calculate the value of the lifetime subscription since there's no telling how long it'll keep my interest but I did some quick sums and I've been playing Eve Online on and off since 2004 (mostly off, admittedly) but I'd have subscribed for at least 24 months - which comes to USD$358.80 based on their pricing.

So I'm actually tempted to go for the lifetime sub on STO, moreso from an economy standpoint rather than bonuses. It is a pretty fun game and MMO-wise I tend to play intensely for several months and then put it on the shelf for a few months to a year and then come back to it so it'll be nice knowing I can jump straight back in without have to reorganise my sub.

Of course the thing could tank after 18 months, but even then I'd still have paid $20 less than on the 1-month recurring sub.

                    Decisions, decisions!

I think you've got too much love to devote to one game, rec. I'd be surprised if you kept on long after the beta finished anyway.

I think I'm going to do the the same thing... It'll keep me entertained when I'm not in the mood for a shooter.

Although I'm concerned the game could flop and be a ghost town in 6-12 months. Unpredictable mmorpgs.
