You're the Accuracy International Arctic Warfare Magnum (AWM)
[Image: http://thesheepdip.com/images/guns/Awm.jpg]
[Image: http://thesheepdip.com/images/guns/steyrScout.JPG]
The 'poor mans' sniper rifle, due to its low cost compared to other rifles. However, the Scout is often selected due to it's highly accurate scope and it's light weight. It requires skill to use, as it is not as powerful as other sniper rifles, and more than one shot is usually required to kill - unless the first shot hits the opponents head...
Also, the AK-47 is not a very accurate weapon. Despite what this quiz states, the AK-47 does NOT fire 7.62mm NATO; although some very few rifles are made in that calibre. In almost all cases, it fires 7.62mm x 39mm Warsaw Pact ammunition. This is a rather heavy round for a rifle to fire, and leads to clumsy shooting past 250m; adustments to aim must be made at this point, and beyond 800m, the rifle is unusable without extreme skill (and even then, still inaccurate).
However, this long round leads to extreme hitting power; a solid hit from an AK-47 will take off an arm, and it's rate of fire (600rnds/min) is respectable. In addition, the weakness of the AK-47 are diluted by it's design; it was designed primarily for urban warfare, where the range of a typical engagement rarely exceeds 500m, so the range factor was not so much of a handicap. However, the AK-47's strengths lie in it's simplicity to use, clean, and operate; and it's extreme reliability even in adverse conditions or indifferent mantainance. It is a common sight in Arab or Middle-Eastern nations to see heavily dented/rusted AK-47's which, amazingly, still fire and aim correctly. The AK-47 and it's ammunition were mass produced by the Soviets, and are therefore available en masse all over the world. You'll never be short on parts or ammo for an AK-47 or varient, which is definately a plus.
All in all, the AK-47 is by far the best assault rifle in the world; however, if given a complete choice of equipment I would still go with a M4A1 with M209, and a Beretta 92FS (M9 in America). The M4 is more compact then the M16, and although this leads to slightly reduced accuracy due to a shorter barrel it is less prone to jam, easier to break down and clean, lighter, and generally better in all other aspects. In addition, it fires the 5.56mm NATO rounds which while lacking the stopping power of the 7.62mm round are lighter, with less recoil and cheaper to buy. The Beretta pistol is by far the best handgun in the world. 9mm round, good stopping power, cheap, extremely reliable, accurate, relatively quiet, safe (ambidexterous safety), all around awesome.
Wolfspirit, I think this was a joke, not a "How much can you read up on guns and post here".

All in all U are very correct.. I know from personal experience, if it wasnt for Lil johhny fu<kw!t, I would still have mine..
It was converted to semi automatic ( replace the AK breech block with a SKS one ) for Aus legalities.
When I handed it in, I kept the breechblock ( so it wouldnt get resold by the police as the rifles used in port arthur were, to expand the 2 weapons used in the port arthur tragedy, had been surrendered to the Tassie police a year before it happened, but the Tassie police sold them thru a gun store for money :/ ). BUT back to the Kalashnikov, the gun was incredibly simplistic in its construction, and all the parts were so thick, it would never break a thing..
Well except maybe the gas port spring, but even that had a steel rod as its guide.
It was one of the best firearms I have ever owned.. Pity, as I still have several hundred rounds for it in my ammo cabinet.
Oh and the Gov gave me a whole "50 for it too, it was in perfect condition, I even bought it from a Russian family. And has firearm offences dropped significantly since the buyback ??

Probably the most popular pistol - and for good reason. Very high power means only a couple of direct hits are required for a kill, and the superb accuracy allows kills even from longer ranges. The small clip is a liability however, especially against opponents armed with higher-capacity pistols who are just waiting for you to reload...

The most expensive weapon in the game offers the ultimate in 'spray and pray'. Immensely powerful and with a huge clip capacity, the M249 is perfect for laying down hails of covering fire. This is offset by terribly accuracy in full-auto mode and a reload cycle long enough to get a beer and a sandwich.

also, whisper...seriously..who cares? are you in the armed forces? does your life depend on knowing which is the best gun? besides, have you used all these guns you're comparing in real combat situations? or are you basing your assumptions on your cs experiance? if ak's are so good, why doesnt america use them and poor coutries like iraq (or variants of the ak) and china use ak's? OMG MAENS STEYER OWNS J00 OMGWTFLOL!@#!# coz like, this one time, i was playing this fully leet server, like theyre all klike 235072340 times better than anyone else ever and i like killed all of them like 10000 times each with my steyer and theyre all "no way man! no freakin way!" and then i got kicked and i like rejoined and im all "hey mans, why did i get kicked" and theyre all "you're too good man, we dont wanna play with people as good as you" and im all oh yeh . so yes, you see steyer is the best. is there anything cs cant prove? i submit that there is not.

OK, newsflash mate, Iraqis and Chinese do use AK-47s, indeed China is today one of the world's most prolific manufacturer of AK-47s.
As for the US Army, they don't use it because it was designed and originally manufactured by the Soviet Union. You know -- the enemy during the Cold War. It'd be a bit stupid for them to buy weapons from their enemy, don'tcha think?
Didn't stop a lot of happy private citizens in the USA from buying them. They're cheap, common, and pretty well designed. Depending on who manufactured your AK, they can be pretty reliable too. Pretty much fits as "the everyman's machinegun". Which is why you see lots and lots of them ... well ... everywhere!
&c.

Favourite of the stealthy, the knife can be potent in the hands of a master assasin. It allows quick vicious slashes, or slower but more powerful stabs which maim and kill opponents at the closest range possible. Kills obtained with the knife are the most pretigious of all.

...thats why i said it. re-read what i said. and even if america was enemies with russia during the cold war, theyve also been allies with them before, as they are now. also, as if you wouldnt use a surperior weapon just because your enemy made it.
i was only debating the fact that the AK47 is the best assault rifle in the world. sure, it might be a cheap and reliable gun, but surely not the best. i dont often see elite special forces units using AK47's when the need arises to use an assualt rifle.
Reload I wouldn't exactly call the US and Russia allies. More neutral towards each other.

Find me one - just one! - place where people buy weapons from an enemy in a totally open, upfront transaction. The enemies of course need to be current enemies - no tricks like "they became enemies later". Perhaps you're right and I'm wrong. But let's see some evidence.
Quote from reload!:

And I don't think I ever said it was "the best". "The best" is defined by your criteria, and I said it was a decent all-rounder, reliable in the hands of careless nongs, cheap, and common. I observed that these properties make it suitable for your average common- or garden-variety raghead/terrorist/freedom-fighter/gun fan/red army soldier.
I mean sure, there are guns which are superior in many other ways: more accurate, lighter, etc etc. But they might be less reliable. Or they could be more expensive (most likely!). And so on and so forth.
I mean this is like arguing about cars. You and I could rant and rave all day about <<Car X>> and <<Car Y>>, but the fact is that which one is "better" will depend on criteria.
So, to recap:
a) The AK-47 is a weapon of choice with those with limited money and resources.
b) I've apparently misread you, although I think justifiably given the ambiguity of your original statement.
c) We're all getting a bit wanky about this.
But hey, it's the internet! :)
Just what have you got against the kalikali anyhow? :P

When is 1 gun always the right tool? My take on this.
AK-47 : Reliable, Low Maintennance, Heavier?
Colt M-16: Accurate, Light, Option of underslung grenade launcher.
If I'm not mistaken, Colts need to be stripped down and cleaned regularly, US troops know how to do this as it's part of their training. A different military body might not have the expertise necessary to give this training: Give 'em AKs :P
Gun nuts may correct me. But I'm pretty sure a Colt wouldn't keep functioning for long under the same conditions that AK-47s endure.
At the end of the day, if there's a bullet in ya, it's not really relevant to you what gun it came out of.

Immense power at short ranges, but watch that seven round capacity dissapear in seconds when firing in full-auto mode. Great fun for rushing headlong into combat and popping heads, or if you're getting a little bored with rifles and SMGs

also, just because two powers are at war, if one power has superior technology, in the form of weaponry, doesnt mean the other wont either buy some of that technology off another power, or attempt to copy or recreate that technology and hopefuly make some improvements in the process.
just like after america came up with the first atom bomb, all the other countries in the world now haven't gone "aww nuts, america has made somthing uber, i guess we wont attempt to aquire some of this uber weapon, because we're at war with one another" thats just illogical.
also, just because a country's armed forces chooses to use a particular weapon, doesnt mean it was made there. both countries engaging in war could both be aquiring arms and munitions from a third party.
