Who remembers the Unreal Tournament 2004 mod, Alien Swarm? Developed by Black Cat Games, the team went on to work on a Source version of the game which they planned as a full retail release. Years later, it's finally here. The twist is that it's not going to cost you a cent!
At approximately 6am AEST tomorrow, Tuesday the 20th of July, Alien Swarm will be made available on Steam.
"Two years ago Valve hired the talented team behind the popular top down co-op mod Alien Swarm. Since then they have been busy working on the Left 4 Dead Series, and now Portal 2. However, we never forgot about Alien Swarm and the team has spent a lot of time bringing the game to Source in between their contributions to the other Valve projects."
Steam achievements, Steam Cloud support, stats tracking and even VAC anti-cheat have been bundled in with the top-down shooter. Although it's not just top-down anymore, with support for 3rd person camera views. Lastly, and excitingly for modders, the entire code base and SDK for the game will also be made available.

by recCounter-Strike: Global Offensive was just updated again, making a number of changes and additions to the game. The default map has been switched from Inferno to Train, which appears to be a far better recreation than Inferno, apart from the fog issue. There are also a bunch of new weapons: the Para, the TEC-9 Pistol, the SG 552 (pictured), and the AUG....

by recI've been shooting some face in the CS:GO beta for the first time this evening, and there's quite a bit to talk about. I should preface this impressions article with the note that while I used to play at a national level, it has been years since I've delved into any CS in any serious capacity. I'm sure there will be a number of current day elitists out there who disagree with my opinions, but I'm not claiming this as gospel, so append as much or as little weight to these opinions as you care to....
