  • Battlefield 3 teaser trailer arrives

Prone, Jets, 64 player multiplayer on the PC and an "exponential leap in destructibility" are just a few of the things you can expect from Battlefield 3. Unfortunately due to a reallocation of development resources, work on Battlefield 3 means we'll never see Battlefield 1943 or Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Onslaught on PC. Unsurprisingly, the things we really want from BF3; freely run dedicated servers and modding tools, have not been confirmed. Check out this teaser trailer anyway. It's neat.

Oh no you don't, Dice. I'm not falling for this trick again.

Furthermore, due to BF3 using a new version of DICE's game engine, Frostbite 2.0, mod tools won't necessarily reflect earlier Battlefield mod functionality. "We will not deliver mod tools in the way that we delivered them for Battlefield 2," Bach says. "Creating mod tools today -- dumbing them down -- takes a lot of energy and what we are discussing more every day is, 'Where do we put our focus?' Right now our focus is to create the best possible multiplayer, single-player, and co-op game -- the core game of Battlefield 3. We're still discussing how we handle modifications of any kind," he adds.

As assumed, they're going to charge us for periodic DLC instead of letting us create our own content.

good thing Valve, Bioware, and Blizzard are still making good stuff - even if Blizzard's release schedule could be mistaken for Nostradamus' predictions.

Speaking of Bioware - I noticed on Mass Effect 2's in-game message thingy, a suggestion that ME3 might be released a lot sooner than mid-year. The ME3 wiki page still says mid year though so yeah, not sure of this.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was just updated again, making a number of changes and additions to the game. The default map has been switched from Inferno to Train, which appears to be a far better recreation than Inferno, apart from the fog issue. There are also a bunch of new weapons: the Para, the TEC-9 Pistol, the SG 552 (pictured), and the AUG....

  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive beta impressions
    by rec
I've been shooting some face in the CS:GO beta for the first time this evening, and there's quite a bit to talk about. I should preface this impressions article with the note that while I used to play at a national level, it has been years since I've delved into any CS in any serious capacity. I'm sure there will be a number of current day elitists out there who disagree with my opinions, but I'm not claiming this as gospel, so append as much or as little weight to these opinions as you care to....
