ID:	596852EA's David DeMartini has spoken to Gamasutra on the topic of the recent conflict between Origin and Steam. He reveals that "Crysis was taken down [by Steam] because the DLC was not available through Steam; it was available through [Direct2Drive]." Yet despite that exclusivity arrangement, David goes on to say "We believe in absolute freedom of choice to allow customers to buy through whatever retail outlet... as long as they're buying an EA game, we're delighted.

"By all means if your preferred retailer is Best Buy or Direct2Drive or Impulse or Steam or Amazon... we're going to make our product available to you."

So, which is it, David? Does EA and Origin truly believe in absolute freedom of choice, or only freedom to choose between the options you provide? In one sentence you've explained that Crysis 2 DLC was made exclusive to Direct2Drive, while in the next you promote an "absolute feedom of choice". And let's not forget that it has already been revealed titles such as STAR WARS: The Old Republic will serve a period of exclusivity on the Origin service.

Unfortunately, this lip-service is merely that, and a direct contradiction of the actual situation. It's also worth noting that EA continue to ask AUD $80 for digitally distributed titles via Origin, often far higher for the same title anywhere else. That seems like good enough reason for gamers to buy from other distribution channels whenever possible, even if that means a physical retailer.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was just updated again, making a number of changes and additions to the game. The default map has been switched from Inferno to Train, which appears to be a far better recreation than Inferno, apart from the fog issue. There are also a bunch of new weapons: the Para, the TEC-9 Pistol, the SG 552 (pictured), and the AUG....

I've been shooting some face in the CS:GO beta for the first time this evening, and there's quite a bit to talk about. I should preface this impressions article with the note that while I used to play at a national level, it has been years since I've delved into any CS in any serious capacity. I'm sure there will be a number of current day elitists out there who disagree with my opinions, but I'm not claiming this as gospel, so append as much or as little weight to these opinions as you care to....
