ID:	596219 A bunch of new Rage videos have been spotted at GameSpot, featuring footage from E3 2010. Juicy! I must admit, for the longest part this id Software title appeared completely underwhelming, but you just can't ignore it picking up numerous best-of-show awards including 'Best Action Game', 'Best Console Game' and 'Special Commendation for Graphics.'

Rage is set for a 2011 release.

Had a look at the videos today, though some things just look od to me in the videos or more to the point sound.

The weapons sound extremely weak, and their damage seems to be doing hardly anything to the enemy. Saw a couple of head shots there and the enemy just kept on coming one after the other. ID software in Doom 3 and also to an extent just use boogie man scare tactics, and its evident when watching the videos. You see guys just suddenly pop up out of no where and just scare the player. Though this would get completely repetitive and boring for me.

The cars don't sound like they have any power in the engine, just sound like a little go cart engine.

The movement of the player just seems very static and un-natural (not like Call Of Duty movement system, that feels and looks very fluid and natural). The enemy have this sudden animation phase switch like its all done programmatic with playing set animation on specific walls or locations. Though I like COD animation system a lot better and its more focused in delivering a story line.

Lighting in the game looks too direct, there is hardly any ambient lighting from what I could tell. You can distinctively make out the hard shadows and dark areas on the characters. So it looks very plastic, similar to Doom 3 engine.

Overall, I think they've spread themselves too thin. Their skills set and experience has always been in the single player hall way shooter area. This has worked very successful for them, though to take the same development team that designed and build hall way shooters and throw them onto this huge project just seems folly to me. You can see other games like BF2 and COD that have kept a very focused goal in mined that is achievable with their experience. Most game company's that try to branch outside their normal (niche, core market) normally get totally raped by the competition who specialize in that area.

I call this one a flop.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was just updated again, making a number of changes and additions to the game. The default map has been switched from Inferno to Train, which appears to be a far better recreation than Inferno, apart from the fog issue. There are also a bunch of new weapons: the Para, the TEC-9 Pistol, the SG 552 (pictured), and the AUG....

  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive beta impressions
    by rec
I've been shooting some face in the CS:GO beta for the first time this evening, and there's quite a bit to talk about. I should preface this impressions article with the note that while I used to play at a national level, it has been years since I've delved into any CS in any serious capacity. I'm sure there will be a number of current day elitists out there who disagree with my opinions, but I'm not claiming this as gospel, so append as much or as little weight to these opinions as you care to....
