In keen anticipation of a hefty play session and the writing of a review I fired up RAGE for the first time last night. It turns out that not even the great id Software is immune to releasing a bad console port, and RAGE certainly appears to be one. Like many others I'll have to wait until some fundamental matters are addressed before playing, as the PC release is currently riddled with problems.
When the game wasn't crashing with errors I wasn't able to enable vsync to reduce tearing, or even change the graphics quality. There's also no option to disable mouse smoothing, which makes things very difficult at low sensitivities. The Steam and Bethesda forums have been inundated with complaints about graphical issues such as texture popping, while readers of GU have had to roll-back Catalyst drivers just to get the game to run.
A post at Bethesda's blog says that most if not all issues "can be attributed to driver issues," which id Software is "currently working with Nvidia and AMD to resolve [...] as quickly as possible." Performance aside, it's disappointing and disheartening to see such little consideration for the PC platform from the pioneers of the first-person-shooter.

There are also a bunch of new weapons: the Para, the TEC-9 Pistol, the SG 552 (pictured), and the AUG....

by recI've been shooting some face in the CS:GO beta for the first time this evening, and there's quite a bit to talk about. I should preface this impressions article with the note that while I used to play at a national level, it has been years since I've delved into any CS in any serious capacity. I'm sure there will be a number of current day elitists out there who disagree with my opinions, but I'm not claiming this as gospel, so append as much or as little weight to these opinions as you care to....
