Modern Warfare 3 will have dedicated servers, pre-purchase for $60
For those of you interested in playing Modern Warfare 3 on the PC, which I imagine will be far fewer than any previous version, rest assured you won't be slung with some dodgy console-like peer-to-peer match-matching system. Activision has confirmed at GamesCom that the PC version of the game will support dedicated servers. There is no word on weather the servers will be through any official set of providers, or if they can be run freely by anyone who sees fit. Activision also said it won't la... -

Retail copies of Deus Ex are region locked
For those of you who have ordered a boxed copy of Deus Ex from an international store, I have some bad news for you: activating the game won't be possible. And the reason? There wasn't enough room for all language audio on the DVD, so they've created various masters for various languages. You wouldn't want to be trying to play Human Revolution in Russian, after all.
This doesn't effect digital distribution services, so if you snapped up a bargain through Green Man Gaming for example,... -

Human Revolution dev says play it on PC
Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a mere seven days from release and the Eidos hype machine is ramping up with the new TV spot seen below. It features a song called My World, created exclusively for the game by Transmissions. But before you run off and buy it for your Xbox 360, consider the developer's advice, which is to play it on the PC. Jurjen Katsman, founder of Nixxes Software, says "real-time tessellation, improved Screen Space Ambient Occlusion, improved blurs and depth of field" are just so... -

Borderlands 2 announced, will be streamed live during GamesCom
Forum goer Mepm broke the news to GU residents that Borderlands 2 had been announced last week, and now we have a bunch of new details and the news that it will be streamed live from the forthcoming CamesCom convention. Generating the most excitement is that AI has been hugely improved and offer 'interactive dialogue'. Bandits will carry class-specific weapons, but the original game's arsenal will be scrapped to make room for a new one. Additionally, new characters will be stealing the show, w... -

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive announced
Seven long years since the release of Counter-Strike: Source we're finally seeing another CS. But it's still not Counter-Strike 2, it's Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Utilising the Portal 2 iteration of the Source engine, the game is scheduled for an early 2012 release on Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and Steam. "CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gamepla... -

Steam Trading launches with beta client
Valve has released a new Steam client beta incorporating a new trading system. The primary feature, trading, allows trading of TF2 items out of game rather than just while playing. Portal 2 items coming soon, as well as 3rd party game support. Unfortunately this client update means you can't troll with useless DLC... -

Limbo is now available on both PS3 and PC
Head on over to the PlayStation or Steam stores to pick up your copy of the highly acclaimed Limbo for a tenner. If you're feeling awfully generous, support indie games development and buy it on both! "Limbo is as close to perfect at what it does as a game can get" say Destructoid, while GiantBomb keep it blunt with "The game is a masterpiece."

Diablo 3 details pour in
Plenty of information had been leaked prior to an NDA being officially lifted, and now it has been. The goss is legit and it's in the wild, already stirring up a lot of healthy anticipation and argument. Of particular note is a real money auction house and a ten character limit on accounts. Blizzard executive VP Rob Pardo has defnded some backlash regarding the real money auction system, saying "people were going to do it anyway, and this way it's secure." Here's some more snippets of info, ... -

iRacing 2.0 has arrived
With 2011 Season 3 of the world's premier online racing sim series comes its latest major iteration; iRacing 2.0. The biggest feature of the new release is the new tire model, or "NTM", delivering remarkably authentic performance. The NTM is now installed on a number of cars including the Ford GT and Skip Barber F2000. It's expected we'll see the NTM rolled out across all cars during the course of this season. V8 Supercar driver Shane Van Gisbergen has been working closely with the iRacing tea...

by recCounter-Strike: Global Offensive was just updated again, making a number of changes and additions to the game. The default map has been switched from Inferno to Train, which appears to be a far better recreation than Inferno, apart from the fog issue. There are also a bunch of new weapons: the Para, the TEC-9 Pistol, the SG 552 (pictured), and the AUG....

by recI've been shooting some face in the CS:GO beta for the first time this evening, and there's quite a bit to talk about. I should preface this impressions article with the note that while I used to play at a national level, it has been years since I've delved into any CS in any serious capacity. I'm sure there will be a number of current day elitists out there who disagree with my opinions, but I'm not claiming this as gospel, so append as much or as little weight to these opinions as you care to....

by recWho here is looking forward to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive? Considering that this community's roots were founded in the early betas of Counter-Strike, I'd hope at least a few of you still have an interest! The next lot of CS:GO beta keys will be given away based on the results of a new Steam survey and participant selections will be made over coming months. "Sometimes we might add experienced players, other times new players. Sometimes 1.6 players, sometimes CSS players, sometimes people who ...
